ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers Update - Patch 3

What was it again that people said to others who couldn't afford a Carrier but loved to have one?
Oh yeah....

Carriers aren't for everyone!!!
Seems like Fdev made that clear with this update.

Me just putting some oil on the fire 😈

I think somebody else mentioned this, but isn't there a chance that hotspots, being server-side, are lagging the client update? Maybe we'll wake up tomorrow and everything will be lovely again.

Did they silent fixed thargoids too ? Can't kite it infinite now. They're gone as pirates do. Before this path could fly straight ahead 20 mins and they were still back.

So mining is broken. Trit mining doubly so. So basically i cant pay for upkeep or fuel my FC easily anymore. And this us considered an improvement Fdev??

I was actually finally starting to have fun after grinding a month and a half to get this damn thing. A MONTH AND A HALF!! I even paid for several paint jobs, landing lights, atc voices, thruster coloring and hulls. And now, ostensibly this carrier is about to be an albatross around my neck with grind.

Why Fdev, why? We just wanted you to fix a frappin exploit not total an entire economic model.

Just adding my info to the pile.
My Fleet Carrier is located about 55000ly from Sol. Mission is to explore the area around my carrier, then mine for an hour or two, then explore again. I've been repeating this until I have mined 1000 tons of Tritium, then I use it to move the carrier and start over again. Mining ship/method = Cutter/laser + SSD if I luck into finding one and it's not rotating too fast, I am not using my PWA because I'm not looking for SSD's only mining them if I luck into one.

Before today, I was reliably mining 155 tons of Tritium per hour from single Tritium hotspots. I would have liked to be closer to 200/hour but I found it acceptable.
Today I have tried 2 different Tritium hotspots at my carriers current location. First hour long session got me 74 tons. Second hour long session got me 76 tons.

I might just leave the carrier where it is until the patch of the patch of the patch of the update comes out.

i don't get the "can only exist for one's instance" thing. this was an argument during the speculation before carriers came out but i see no relevance in the current scenario. carriers wouldn't need any instancing restriction different from ships. a player can even have multiple actors (mothership/slf/srv) active, they all vanish if he logs out. that's just religion, all modes are equal.

again, carriers are persistent so player's can use other's carriers while they're offline to dock, buy and sell. if this is the significant departure you are referring to then i fully agree, but this by design, nothing to do with instancing.

i might be reading too much into this.

nope, you will be able to grind for the fuel to go anywhere you want. i have no idea where tritium spawns but there surely must be a source you can reach from your carrier with a ship?

In the current state you get about 10 tons of tritium per 60 limpets. You need about 135 tons to jump 500LY. I would have to use 810 limpets to get 135 tons of tritium to make one jump. The largest cargo hold I have in my biggest ship (A Cutter) holds 650 tons. I guess I could make a trip all the way back to the bubble to pick up enough tritium to be able to jump the carrier 2,407 LY and then repeat the process over and over until I get back.

I've found good trit returns in an LTD hotspot, but not in a trit one. Currently it seems to give a small boost to other items, just not the item named on it

collector limpets are optional, but anyway you're jumping a fully serviced mobile station 500ly in one go. sounds fair to me that this should imply some degree effort and planing.

you can stock up fuel on markets before heading out, and you can park your thing near natural sources. if need be, your carrier can even provide the limpets. it may be a case for tweaking but i see nothing wrong with it. except if you consider that carriers should be available at no cost or effort for anyone. which would be actually a legitimate opinion, mind you, but then again nobody forces a carrier on you either. e.g. i won't have one and take my fuel from the stars at considerably less autonomy but with less complications. that's my choice. i think you can't say with a straight face that you are 'stranded in the black' just because you chose to travel in a frigging mobile station and don't want to actually service it.

Its beyond a joke now. Every bug that gets fixed, 3 more pop-up. We are the Beta testers at this point.

I would ask when Patch 4 out, but what's the point? That will contains its own Attack-Wing full of bugs.

When they promised to delay Carriers to focus on bugs, maybe what they meant was focussing on creating lots more bugs for the Fleet Carrier release... because there certainly wasn't much more than an initial flurry of fixes which then went quiet.

They seem to have Lernaean Hydra bugs. Fix one, two more grow in it's place :)

Advise to FDev: Shutting down the servers will solve all issues. And the good thing is: even the most incompetent person can just pull the plug, so I am sure you can do it!

I'm kinda in the same boat, but I didnt mine - I used the hauling tritium gravy train to earn slower but still decent credits. Problem is I earned just barely enough to buy FC, some optional services, and not much left over for peace of mind to ensure maintenance effectively for long enough to consider 'end of game'.

Either I need to figure out way to keep earning or just sell FC to prevent the ongoing cash drain.

I would wait it out, there will be other cash cows. Give it a week or five (if you can fund your FC for that long).

Worst case some people will get a 5b cr refund.
I've seen new FC owners who cannot afford a refuel of 50m because they just bought the carrier. I think they will get their money back very quickly, looking at the scarcity of Tritium.
I know mine is set for a good 8.5 years.

Honestly, how stupid can you be, to share demand and supply of commodities with the whole community in a game, that is not ment to be "live", meaning items will be replenished with the tick. So everyone who is able to play right after the tick will have the chance to get the requested stuff at low rates. All others are pretty much screwed.

Honestly the thing between the ears is called brain, and it can be used to figure and solve problems.

I can understand you need to correct the egg exploit but I think you’ve went to far to the other extreme where it’s very difficult to find anything of value in any ring now wether it be a single, double or triple overlapping hotspot. I think you should reconsider adjusting hotspots to be a bit more fruitful than they are after this patch. Mining used to be an enjoyable experience for me personally, I never used the exploit because I found it to be cheating but I felt that finding valuable minerals in the field was just about right. Now i can search a ring for over an hour and barely find enough material to make it worth while.
