Stuttering and FPS drop in every 5-8 minutes (with video)

Dear members,
I have a realy annoying issue with Elite Dangerous: the game stops /stutters 4-5 times (in 1 sec intervals) in every 5-8 minutes (frame drops to 0). I cannot connect it to any special event - it happens everywhere: on stations, in supercruise, on planetsurface, among asteroids, even if I stand still and do nothing.
You can check the issue here:

It only happens in ED, no other a game has this, they run flawlessly (Assassins Creed: Odyssey, Sniper Elite 4, Doom Eternal, Minecraft Dungeons, Age of Empires, etc)
I have the latest drivers, a plain new windows install, and a brand new gamer pc tbh. Specs are follows:
MB: MSI b450 Tomahawk max
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: Sapphire 5600XT
RAM: 2x8 gb Patriot Viper ddr4
Win10 pro

I tried several things: vsync, limiting framrate in game/ in Rivatuner, starting directly from launcher (without Steam), etc.
What should I do to get rid of this annoying thing? Please help!
Thx.

Sorry CMDR, I can feel your pain, but fdev are too busy atm utterly needlessly patching LTD mining, repatching the patch, re-repatching the patches and breaking everything in the process, so they simply have no time to fix actual issues like the one you described.

Wow man, at least you made my day :D Thx :)

I don't have any of those issues. Have you checked other programs interfering, such as antivirus scans etc.? What's your internet connection like?

Your OP doesn't actually show any video so hard to tell whereabouts you experience this - in the busiest systems which are chock full of FCs (and players) I do experience some frame drops but nothing like you describe.

Seems like old micro-disconection. Sorry for you , it may be some internet related problem ? I dont have these and my laptop/connection sucks atm. Maybe it is related to FDev tho , dunno .

Sorry pal, you've right, I've added the youtube link now.
I don't have any antivirus atm, and my internet is stable 500 mbit /s. I have a laptop, where I played previously, and it has no such issues. So it should be some driver - ED problem, but no other game makes such stuttering, they are stable 60 fps (limited) without lag or stutter...

It seems so - like when loading the game, and your ship is rotating in front of you.. and stucks a moment several times. thats the same like in the game too. I'm sitting still, my collectors are collecting, and suddenyl 4-5 micros stutter appears, fps drops to 0, in fixed 1 second interval. Like the game wants to synch something from the network, and it freezes the gameplay meantime... dunno... :(

TBH the OP's problems might be totally unrelated, but he's definitely not the only one experiencing performance issues since the carrier update (e.g. freezes of various length in carrier infested systems).

So the game works smoothly on your laptop, but not on your desktop? Would suggest a local issue to me, unless they're both experiencing this issue now?

For me it's the other way around, I used to play on a laptop which was more prone to small stutter (say, when going through the mailslot), although just 3-10fps drops now and then, nothing like going all the way to 0.

With my much more powerful desktop it's rock solid now, quite a pleasant experience really. The exception is very busy systems (and only since the last patch or two, so it's on FDevs side) but at least those are easy to avoid.

EDIT - just noticed your video - that's New Borann, I mined there only a couple of days ago and didn't have those issues, but then that was prior to the latest patch. Did you experience the stutter before the patch released?

Totaly agree that this should be to priority ( and may actually is , since they talked about it in the last patchnote) .

The last day I've played on my 4 yrs old laptop was without any stutter. Altought it was capable to run the game only on low-medium and 30 fps max. I don't remember any stuttering like this. When I talk about "frame drop + stuttering" I don't think on the usual "slowing", when many things on the screen, and your fps goes down to 10-20 fps for some seconds. as you can see it on the video, it totally drops to 0 for a sec or half. than back to 60. Btw, the game can run over 120 fps when not capped to 60, on high settings. So it shouldnt be GPU performance problem, and when the stutter happens, there is no CPU or GPU peak on the line.
I'll check my laptop again, log in and play some time to watch carefully this stuttering. If it not happens, then there should be some issue between the new rig (windows? driver? memory timing?) and ED. The most interesting, that no other game has this stuttering at all... (if there was some driver or hardver problem, they should lag as well, shouldn't they?)

Elite has always been a bit temperamental when it comes to stable performance (on my laptop), it seems to be affected by other processes and connection much more so than other games which run very stable.

Having said that, my new box runs the game at Ultra at 1080p and 1.5x supersampling at a rock solid 60fps (locked to screen refresh rate via vsync) - even in that system you took the clip in, which is known to be very busy - but I did notice over the past few days some stability issues in busy systems I haven't had before, even on my new PC. So I think it's related to the game rather than hardware/software.

I would still double check on your laptop if you can replicate the issue if I were you, just to ensure it really isn't a local issue on top of Elite's existing (network related) performance troubles.

If your laptop is low-spec then maybe it's not worth it to test this problem on that one. I'd do it on the best hardware I have.

Why not? He said he could run it in a stable fashion on his laptop before, so it should still be stable even at low settings - if it's not it's an indicator it's not limited to his desktop.

You've right - but in my experience, its indepentent of the settings. I tried to run it on my new rig on low settings, even on 30 fps, and the problem still exists. So its not "performance" issue in strickt way. So if on my laptop it runs smooth then its not network issue for example...

Because a low-spec rig can have all kind of different problems with the game. ED is not a particularly demanding game after all, and 30 FPS is waaaay too low to begin with.

was getting a stutter seemed only once in awhile. i timed it, was exactly every 15 minutes. had setting to turn off monitor after 15 minutes. i use controller so was not moving the mouse, so computer tried to turn off screen. changed setting to NEVER turn off screen and no more stuttering.

Of course it could be a network issue, it could be a connection issue with your desktop that isn't affecting your laptop.

While your internet may be rock solid, the connection from your PC to the router may be the issue, whether wireless or wired. Can you get some monitoring software on the PC that will monitor the speed of the connection between PC and router and see if there are any issues there.

Try mining in another system without carriers and see if the problem persists. Borann has 43 according to Inara.

Carriers may not be the problem but this way to you get to eliminate an item from your suspect list.
