Traveled 5000+ly to open palin, not showing.

G'day commanders,
As the title says, A few of my friends and I took the ol' FC on a trip to open up Palin and it doesn't show up in the codex.
Nor in the engineer page on my ships right hand panel.
It still says I need to travel 5000ly. Is this a bug or perhaps I missed something?
Not really finding info on this in anything recent. Most posts and reddit columns are from 2019 citing bugs etc...
Surely this is not STILL a bug for something like an engineer a year later.
(I say that last bit with a touch of sarcasm since it is possible, and that's what frightens me).
Anyways, any suggestions would be much appreciated. If I missed a thread somewhere, a nudge in the proper direction would be greatly appreciated.

I had thought of this although I did take my carrier out 1600ly before that and it is showing in my codex. Also, the quest says "travel 500ly from start" with no mention of any other stipulations. It'd be nice to know though.

Hmm, perhaps there is a virtual line at 5000ly around your starting point and you have cross this line in whitchspace to trigger Palin? So perhaps if you take your fc to a system around 4990ly away and then jump with your ship?

You may not have hit 5000 yet. Happened to me recently. I was doing the 5000 ly Palin run the old fashioned way and was pretty dang sure I'd made it, at least according to EDSM, but no Palin unlock. So I checked Chloe Sedesi, exact same unlock, on the right panel, and HER unlock info stated that I'd only made it to 4950. No such update on Palin's page. A couple jumps further into the black and they both unlocked at the same time.

Try jumping a bit further out.

For my Alt commander it worked out as intended with a hitchhike trip to Colonia. No changes during the carrier flight but on the first jump out of Colonia I got the invitation from Palin and Sedesi immediately. 🤷‍♂️

Your "distance traveled from start" stat won't update without it, supercruising around in a system which you traveled to in a carrier is not enough.

I hitched a ride on a Fleet Carrier to the Rosette Nebula (about 5,300LY away).
The 5,000LY box was only ticked after I high waked myself in my own ship to another system.

That, and the bit about FCs and how it works with "distance traveled". I don't know about that since I don't own one, but it makes sense, in a coding sort of way. Jump to a nearby system from where the FC you hitched a ride on, and the code will register your current location. Don't, and it won't. It should, but it might not.

I hope it works out for you, CMDR. All I learned was that the Engineer page on the right panel updates correctly for Chloe, but not for Prof. Palin. Maybe that has to do with the past lore of the game where Prof. Palin was at a different location, then disappeared, then reappeared. Doesn't really matter, just check Chloe for an update on whether you're far enough away. When she unlocks, Palin will too.

We have discovered them and Qwent to level 5
