SWTOR.....new....2011 game. As long as you like rotation based combat mechanics still you'll be fine.
Also it's not exactly a shining example of an F2P model either.....

Who told you Elite was a mining game? Were you fooled into buying ED by one of those Youtube celebrities? "Get rich in Elite" videos are made by Nigerian princes, so be careful what who believe!

So? I only joined the forums a few days ago, been playing for 2 months and change.
I'm sure he's aware. Mining just seems to be his preferred activity in game. There is a point so long as it's defined by the player. For all we know, OP is a working dad with limited play time and enjoys mining and making his credits for an hour or two a night, a few days out of the week, and since it's a lax and easy going activity with little danger, it's his modus operandi.
What did people do before mining? Those who played Elite probably did other things and post-mining, those who joined for mining well... mined.

right... but like i alluded to... things like smuggling have been completely broken for far longer than mining.
Why should mining get a free pass to jump the queue?
And besides, as many have alluded to, mining still works.

No, I'm laughing at the conversation. I think you're perhaps taking it too seriously.
It is just all very amusing to me...if the poor bloke actually did buy the game just to mine, I do feel sorry for him...but I suspect he didn't. It smacks of "Newb cracked that egg for credits but now doesn't know what to do with the omelette."
Even that question..."what did people do before mining?" What's the bit you left out? (For credits) is the answer. What did people do (for credits) before mining? When the game first came out, it didn't even have limpets. You had to manually scoop every fragment. Mining in 1.0 was remarkably frustrating and tedious work and you worked and flew for every credit. Now you can wing mine and strip an entire asteroid belt in a week and buy a few Cutters and a Carrier to boot. Or shoot the same stupid rock and eggsploit your way to Carrier.
It was broken and needed fixing. It's unfortunate that you came in mid-story arc, though. New guys don't have a context and I do see how this could take them aback.

What we really need is a ‘Bring back the ADS‘ thread. That would keep us busy.
I don't feel sorry for him one bit. No where in the game description does it mention Epic and Elite mining. Like I said, he can get rekt and go back to Minecraft or Fortnite.
