Newcomer / Intro Shipping Lanes

Is there an easier way to find shipping lanes other than flying aimlessly through the bubble checking galaxy map continuously? Trying to work on some engineering and cant seem to find shipping lanes unless i am not working on engineering..

Shipping lanes exist in populated systems between the entry point at the main star and the station(s). They are one of the areas in supercruise known as spheres of influence.

"Shipping lanes" are tubes of space connecting the primary star with the inhabited planets. You won't see them on the galaxy map. Just jump into any inhabited system and start flying straight-line towards a space station, you should find yourself in a shipping lane.

Not entirely sure why you'd need or want to do this, since the only thing I'm aware of Shipping Lanes affecting is police response time to crimes (it's faster in a shipping lane than in deep space). If it used to affect USS spawn rates, it doesn't any more, not since the FSS was introduced and USS spawning was de-randomized.

This at least is my understanding. :cautious:

I haven't gone out of my way to find these, but I imagine systems experiencing economic boom might be likely candidates.

Most likely you're trying to find a mission-related signal source. Just scan the system's NAV Beacon and you'll find it.

I mean wouldn't there be more ships using it during boom?

Perhaps it should in theory, but I can't say I've noticed that more NPCs appear in the shipping lanes during Boom. NPC appearance seems to be more or less random.Ships in a Supercruise instance tend to spawn faster than they despawn, so the older an instance gets, the more crowded it gets with NPCs, but the spawn rate does not seem to be correlated to the economy state.
