General / Off-Topic Elite platforms

Ha ha I remember when I upgraded my ZX81 to the Speccy! My god it was wonderful! So many great games, with Elite of course. That awful Lenslok system to prevent piracy - simpler times...

Thats a 'modern' compatible machine built from ground up. Many people still like there 8bits

Well I’m 49 sir, but I clearly missed these...
What was your first microprocessor ? :)

The Z80 was an 8-bit processor from the manufacturer Zilog.

The Motorola 68000 was a 16/32 bit processor.

And the i486 a 32-bit from the manufacturer Intel.

We can say that the i486 in several versions was a major processor for Intel.

Apparently there is some demand for a conversion to the Enterprise 64/128 a Z80 machine released in 1985 one of the few that never got an offical port of Elite..

Well if memory serves, and it doesn’t cos I’m old, I toyed with the ZX81 and the BBC Micro. Eventually I ended up with an Amiga - and what a machine that was!
In any case you know the Z80 and the Motorola 68000, as you have had a ZX81 and an Amiga.

Indeed the ZX81 computer was composed of a Z80 microprocessor and the Amiga series were composed of the Motorola 68000 family microprocessors.

But I think you were confusing the name of the computer and the name of its processor when you said you missed the Z80 and the Motorola 68000.

In view of your progress, I would not be surprised that for your passage on PC was an Intel i486 processor or then a Pentium processor. :)

Started with a PC that was pre-286. Can’t remember the details though, but it had just a green text monitor.
Moved on to a 386-16 and then my favourite which was a 486-25 - loved that!

I dont just talk the talk

Ah so finally you know all these processors.

For the i486 there was as you said the 486 -25 but also a whole range like the DX2-66 and the DX4-100.

AMD even made an i486 compatible, named 5X86 133 (which I owned). It was wonderful.

Regarding your PC prior to 286, it was perhaps an 8086 or 8088

All these processors remind me of happy days in the computer epic. :)
