Ship decision: Krait MkII or Python?

Take combat salvaging for instance. No way you can cram enough limpets and cargo into a Krait, without huring her combat capability.
Python on the other hand just does whatever, and she does it well. You pay with your fighter ofc, but at the end of the day thats just a couple DPS.
You don't need limpets in a Krait (unless you're mining), it's so maneuverable and the view so good out the front you scoop them yourself.

A fighter with 2 fixed beams does 45 DPS and melts shields. That's equivalent to more than 2 large gimballed beams or more than 1 huge beam laser. With that damage output and the distraction you'll find you destroy higher ranked NPCs much faster than on your own.

Ive spent 1400hours in my Krait (I now have 4 including a Phantom) I bought at 15% off mostly A rated started on 120T missions till I could engineer my Cobras 4c Biweave then I could use that and carry
208 T in Steely, a quick change of mods and I had a fighter to live for, Ive lost count of the Phythons Ive killed and mats scooped , It also mined my Cutter back in the days of Borann so no contest if you like varied game play

I'd suggest getting the Python first, it can pay for itself quite quickly.

I've done above last week. Returned from long range exploration, landed in Colonia where I don't have ships. Bought trading Python, cost was bit over 44M. Flying lazy cargo delivery missions it took me 3 sessions to cover the expenses. Whitin a week I made total of 300M, just doing cargo deliveries. And there are more profitable ways of earning credits so your mileage may vary. Case is get one, play a bit with it, get another (exchange or add) and see for yourself.

I'll vote for Krait as personally it looks better and has more personality. Python is slightly better but more dull.

And of course a fully equipped Phantom with 71 ly jump range for exploration jobs, with everything onboard you need. Cost only 51M. (I sold out my AspX, as its obsolete.)
With that kinda range your not goina do a ton in terms of actually exploring stuff. ;)
Dont skimp out on stuff like a 2nd SCV, some kind of laser weapon, research limpets, etc...

Both great ships. If I had to choose only one it would be the python, for utility, cargo space, and visibility.

Yeah right, instead of having 6 limpets scoop up my stuff, i do it manually one by one.
What did i say about Krait being anything but ideal? Exactly...

The only time I've ever used limpets is when I was mining to unlock Selene Jean.

Using optional slots for limpet controllers and cargo space for the limpets to do what I can do without either doesn't sound ideal to me, but that's your choice and I respect that.

Really the biggest difference is you can have a fighter bay on the Krait. If the fighter bay isn't your thing I'd go with the Python. JM2C's

The biggest differences for me are the visibility out of the cockpit and the maneuverability; I've always got those even if I've not got a Fighter Hangar fitted at that moment.

The thing I dislike about the Krait is the boost sound. I liked the Cobra MkIII boost sound better personally.

In my experience with both.

Krait is the bether multipurpose, because it can do all the python can and a bit more, it may not be as good in cargo missions because of one less size 6 optional internal, but the mobility it has over the python, makes it all worth it.

My krait MK2 Multipurpose build, i use it for almost everything, but mining/trading:

And i made my python a focused medium trader/miner, i can't deny, the python is the best medium trader we have in game right now:

Depending on what you really do more often. Krait leans towards combat, while the Python leans towards protection and solid multirole with emphasis on hauling, but it doesn't mean the Krait can't haul. Personally I have two Kraits and two Pythons. Each one dedicated for multi role and combat.

For example here is my bgs mission runner Krait. She is quick, capable of those "deliver 180tonnes of..." missions, also easily kills pirate lor from the mission board (non-wing). Bgs Python looks identially + has extra 16 seat passenger cabin.

Interestingly I find that I get into more fights (submit to interdiction) in my Python than the Krait, don't know why...

Could be because I stack more missions on it, maybe because it's slower, or even the latest patch, any one here has similar experience ?

On XB I also have 2 Kraits mk2, a core miner and a combat ship. But then i have 3 Pythons - a hauler, a passenger liner and a multirole

To be noted that i got my first billions (and a Cutter) not by mining, but by doing supply/delivery and passenger missions in a Python.

Another vote for the Krait MK.II - I like to see what's going on around me.
The Python can carry more cargo - but I only got one on my third account (no engineers there) as short range hauler for tritium dealer carriers if the station has no large pads.

But:
I should add I'm still very early in the game (around 50 hours) so I'm not at ship engineering stage yet.
I'd suggest you unlock at least the 5 basic Engineers first, as either of the ships (the Python more than the Kraits) will be somewhat of a pain without some engineered thrusters and FSD.

Indeed, Python is the best medium cargo hauler and the best medium passenger and the best medium miner
Krait Mk2 is second to those, but is better in combat due to the SLF hangar

So, overall Python wins hands down, but if you are more combat focused, a Krait Mk2 might serve you better

Again, lies
