Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

This is one aspect that disappointed me in ED, we were teased something similar but never go it to this level.

But that damage level is insane in those shots. For once the F word is justified.

The cool part is when you loose all your left (or other direction) thrusters and have to manage your landing without been able to turn right.
When the electronic is damaged, you can have some thrusters switching off and on randomly when you use them. You can also have your whole ship or QT turning off randomly.
The sounds and ship's hull shaking of damaged ships are really good too. You feel the ship's pain and wonder if the ship will not explode in the next minute when you try to get to the next station.

In case anyone was thinking I was mad.

I watched this as a teenager with my friend and we used to say to one another "Bug got your tongue Mr Pratt!" when one of us was quiet so I was immediately reminded of it from milligna's post.

We got the quote wrong anyway, he he.

Quite appropriate for Mr Roberts (Prat) at the moment.

...until you remember that you're not a boat, and turning right is not dependent on which side thrusters are available. Also until you remember that, if you can still fly in a straight line with the use of thrusters, any semblance of not being able to turn in one specific direction is just a silly and unrealistic affectation.

Should actually be turning / rolling left with such a damage. Unless the RCS / mav thrusters can compoensate. Usually the games simplifiy this down but it may well in unmanouverable if looked at realistically.

I do accept simplifications in general. But don't sell me these simplifications as great sim features. They aren't.

Ci¬G had to simplify it since most players in SC are casual FPS style players playing with M/KB...although the more experienced or longer term backers are turning to HOSAS, HOTAS or variations of it if they aren't already using those for flying. It's not like Elite where the majority are/were long term players with many hundreds of hours of space flight....either with M/KB or with flight controllers. They see SC as an FPS game that just happens to have spaceships. Me, being an Elite player, I look at SC as a spaceship flying game that just happens to have space legs. There's a difference.

A lot more than a few times. I remember at least 6/7 iterations between sound effects and visual effects. And 2 big ones are wip (with gameplay attached).
Imagine this dev time were gone into developing the network architecture....or gameplay loops or bug fixing or a functional physic grid .... otherwise CI -g had finished SQ42 in this time. But as long the cash flows and CR +family and friends get richer and richer nothing will change.

The damage models are cool, i'll grant CIG that, and it probably doesn't take too many resources from gameplay development side of things either. However...

WIP : CIG have started to work on fire propagation inside ship.

CIG have started to work on....

This should be the motto for the whole project. 8 years in, approx 400 million in funding and investment.

Now is not the time to work on fluff.

Fire propagation could wait. Its not needed, and it will take actual dev resources.

FD probably saw the amount of time they had to invest in doing the Anaconda and understood if they tried to do this with all the ships they would never get anything done and then downgraded the priority to "god only knows when we will get round to doing this for other ships"

:

"They updated damage effects a few times" sounds much less oilier. What's with the continuous sales pitch? Does the 300 Million Dollar Game really need the Scientologist treatment after all these years?

Might as well start signing off with "have fun" at this rate

Waiting for the posts starting "What have we learned this week?"

:

True, but it was things like being able to visually see what thrusters someone was running which morphed into ship kits too. FD were right to focus on getting the game running, but it was left at that and never saw more love.
