Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The drag/gravity effect appears to be applied statically to the ship where direction points to bottom of the ship along that central axis.
Dont they do any kind of design meetings, with some senior dev / architect reviewing their decisions ? Because that's sub-beginner poop right here. Also they are entrenching themselves even more deeply into their backwards physics / FM implementation, and the more they go, the more workarounds will be needed to compensate for stupid side effects like that one. It also proves there is still no gravity, and ships still have no mass.
(edit) also i need to verify this in 3.10, but in previous patches, "drag" was actually front mav thrusters firing continuously.

This is hilarious...

ACTUAL RESULT

Drag in atmospheric flight is on. Ship is losing altitude as expected when in horizontal flight. Requires constant pitch to maintain altitude. This is expected without lift generating surfaces. Now roll ship 90 degrees from level. Ship no longer loses altitude and remains steady. Now ship drfts equal amounts along the horizon as it did when losing altitude at level flight. The drag/gravity effect appears to be applied statically to the ship where direction points to bottom of the ship along that central axis.
Never been done before (nor should have been - even Sublogic's FS 1.0 had drag opposite to flight vector).

It makes me wonder what sort of atmospheric model they are using......

old news but only 1 day late so thats pretty good I feel :)

This will allow for great salt mining ^^

Silly fudster, you just don't understand the genious of CRobber. The name says it all and you're just reading it wrong.
It's an ATMoSpheric. model, or to use the full name "at the moment, oh, spherical?". I.e. the flight model is just a sphere being pushed in any direction a sphere probably might be able to be pushed it (but spheres are hard, so there are some uncertainties).

Might as well give the full post:
I don't think the agent's ramblings are too far away from the truth to be honest. Anyone looking in from the outside can already surmise with reasonable authority that all is not well within Ci¬G...I found the commentary on Turbulent interesting...mayhap a thing for the future once the investors push the almost impenetrable obstacle to game development that is Chris Roberts out of the way.

It was also interesting to see mention of the investors potentially overseeing the project, which is how I imagine they would given the not unreasonable amount of capital they've already chucked into the open dumpster fire of Star Citizen. I can also guess they're not too happy either. :)

I do wonder if the Roadmap Roadmap will end up being a masterstroke:

Our goal with this new Roadmap is to give you better visibility into what teams are working on, share the progress of more teams, and go so far as to indicate the size of the projects for our tech, features, and content teams.

This makes it sound like they are going to report on what the teams are doing rather than what they have achieved. This will make it look like a lot is going on - we'll see lots of entries about all the stuff that is being worked on ... but ofc things being developed is not things being delivered. Only a few months until we see it

Is there a place where the Agent posts? Its a slow day in ED land and I need some over the fence gossip

Dang. Has he leaked anything interesting lately?
His input is always interesting...tinged with a bit of over imagination I suspect...but he's never far from the truth either way. His posts that I've read second hand either on here or elsewhere always seem to hit the mark when it comes to SC. Maybe just my imagination working overtime as well...but what he writes always makes sense...if you want it to :D

I think he posts in SA...not sure since it's mostly behind a paywall.

Nah, most of the time the paywall is down.

Lowtax used to throw it up occasionally, but there has been a bit of scandal with him and he was pushed into selling the site to someone else or face a mass walkout.

Won't go into details but you can find the relevant threads on SA if you go looking.

Otherwise just google something awful star citizen, should be first link
