... and the ability to leave ones ship (and dismiss it) at high altitude (possibly just inside the atmosphere) to HALO insert to a ground location - assuming that the jetpac has enough fuel to stop my CMDR becoming the cause of another crater on the planet in question,

In gaming your fancy jetpack is usually turned quite useless when you jump out of cover and invite every player, their dogs and the NPC to shoot at you from all angles. You can pretty much only compensate to give players superbulletresistancy which just doesn't cut it.

JetPac was ZX Spectrum game - I'm trying to save PC gaming here, by putting jiggly physics to the use they were created for.
Ain't no jiggling with sprites - maybe in your head while you were browsing that naughty magazine when loading Jetpac from cassette.
 
There are a number of fundamental things I wish for in Odyssey, obviously without asking for to much crazy stuff. Quite honestly, I do not know how FD will be able to seamlessly (or maybe not) incorporate this into ED. that being said. I would be quite happy with the following from a FPS view point:

1. Two weapons only (Main & Side arm), ammo limited to what you carry or find, please no "non-sense" in carrying 10 different rifles etc..
2. Med-kit / Revive possibility
3. REMLOCK suit oxygen limit (limit to x hours, otherwise find an Oxy refill station, go back to your ship, or die).
4. Gestures (Hostile/Friendly)
5. Direct Voice Comms in 200m radius, or whatever range. chance to negotiate with opponents if they are Player Characters
6. Ability to Pick-up / Drop Weapons & Equipment
7. No 3rd Person view, immersion breaking.
8. No loot boxes (Arx)
9. Use old-age design for Keyboard/Mouse FPS, Translate to console generation, not the other way around

All but #7. The ability to switch back/forth between 3rd/1st to me is not necessarily immersion breaking for me but convenience and aesthetic. That's my opinion though. Agree with the rest of general wants
 
Literally the only purpose of an FPS mode tacked on to your space sim is as an excuse you roll out regularly for why you've not delivered all your promised features after 8 years and $300 million of backers' money.
