Hi Ben o/I mean, once it's done, the switch is probably going to need to be flicked, yeah.

I should have specified Xbox...don't have a PS4 and only ever played RDR2 on Xbox and PCI believe this is a renderer path for PC and XBOX, for PS4 they would have to use the Sony proprietary API.
That would not matter anyway: by the time it's released, a few generations of graphics cards and drivers will be past and done(i was writing "a few generations" then restrained myself from completing with "of backers"...)
It won't last that long. It will never found a religion - it still is just an enrichment scheme. You could argue churches are too, but they usually serve some transcendent purpose. I mean salvation of PC gaming kinda is transcendental but not enough to found a whole belief system.I believe this is a renderer path for PC and XBOX, for PS4 they would have to use the Sony proprietary API.

CIG had decided to switch to Vulkan in early 2017. Cryengine was dx11 and they wanted to change it for one of the last gen renderer (dx12 or Vulkan). They choose Vulkan. Are we seriously discussing SC switching the renderer, after 9 years of development?
I don't get it. I don't say that Vulkan is better than DX12. I say Vulkan will give huge benefit on DX11. There is little difference in performance between DX12 and Vulkan.Nope...Red Dead Redemption 2 has been running Vulkan for over a year on PC, over 2 years on consoles...on the PC version, it gives the option to select either Vulkan or DX12 and the option to switch between both api's at will. I prefer it in DX12 myself but see no obvious difference in performance between the 2.Vulkan will (and not might) give better performance, not because it's better than dx12 (it's not) but because SC run on dx11.

Yes. If you listen to the dev, the huge part is to redo whole pieces of code to parallelize all tasks that can be parallelized. They also add direct accesses to the GPU, bypassing the current use of CPU. It's not a simple switch. So, 3 years later they still haven't made the switch?
Why not? Visuals are the only thing they have as of now, and they clearly can't get anything else to work. It's not liek they can change the game engine. Are we seriously discussing SC switching the renderer, after 9 years of development?
I have a better idea: CI-G should drop SC and start working on SC 2 immediately. This will allow them to stall for another 9 years.
They changed the game engine a lot... I will not detail what they changed here because a lot of you just think CIG is lying about it.It's not liek they can change the game engine.
I talk about real changes to the core engine, not the switch from Cryengine to Lumberyard.Changing form Cryengine to Branded Cryengine isn't really changing game engine.
That is why they make VOIP (Vulcan over IP)As long as client performance is heavily dependent on server performance, I fail to see how a Vulkan renderer will be able to provide the miracle you seem to hoping for.
Now, what is claim anyway? Also, I absolve myself. But that wasn't what was claimed, now was it?
Don't give them ideas!!Why not? Visuals are the only thing they have as of now, and they clearly can't get anything else to work. It's not liek they can change the game engine.
I was talking about their changing to another game engine not modifying the current engine.I talk about real changes to the core engine, not the switch from Cryengine to Lumberyard.

I was referring to your assumption that SC would be the first title to go with Vulkan...DX 12 and Vulkan are too similar performance wise to make that distinction.I don't get it. I don't say that Vulkan is better than DX12. I say Vulkan will give huge benefit on DX11. There is little difference in performance between DX12 and Vulkan.
Would have been shorter, and cleaner to write their own in-house engine, when all is said and done. Not like quite a few people told it before.... but we know what kind of deal CRoberts had and that kinda ruined the whole thing to begin with. Now, i'm not saying they don't have to do the groundwork first, but if its taking them 3+ years to make the switch from DX to Vulkan due to all the things that have to be changed, you have to wonder how much of a mess of code they have to work with.
Put me in the non-believers. I'm all for Vulkan everywhere (more native linux gaming !!!) but that's clearly bad marketing to claim it improves performance by itself, and by that much.Still, if the switch to Vulkan means i get a stable 60 FPS then that would be nice. I'll wait and see what it brings, if/when it happens.
