Should E.D have wormholes to other places, and if so, where to?

Since the other thread about this is a troll thread, I'm going to make a real thread about it so we can actually discuss the ideas on it's merits, and not have it buried under such filth. So, your opinions on wormholes and E.D, and where you'd like them go if you do want them?

Edit:
There seems to be 3 main ideas floating around, so I'll include them so you can more easily respond to these ideas.
  • The first one is limited fast travel to colonized areas. Also the one with the most resistance against it.
  • The second is as an exploration anomaly, with different opinions about how stable or unstable they would be, and if they would be one way or not. Overall this is seen as the most promising by players in this thread.
  • Third (and final), Travel to another galaxy. Seems to have some interest (though not as much as the above). Would be the hardest to implement, however.

Maybe just one or two and for a very specific purpose yes. They do allow for compelling story lines, albeit a bit of a dead horse perhaps these days.

But just adding them all over? For the sake of it? No.

One to Colonia would be nice and perhaps a really good idea. One to Beagle would be nonsense.. Same for one to SagA or other uninhabited places.
I'd feel Colonia deserves its current status intact (distant colony).

But if they added a worm hole randomly, with no fanfare, that lead to a new distant location, with a new place to colonise but... "insert emergent content here"... Would be really cool.

Only if it was a wormhole or jumpgate to a different galaxy, since we're not getting Galactic Hyperspace in the foreseeable future.

Or that!

The galaxy is not so big anymore. With the DSSA there are no more remote places. So its time to make a Sol - Colonia wormhole
Do that and Colonia loses all meaning. It's just another part of the bubble except only accessible through a single point.

If they were to set up a jump gate, it should be to somewhere completely new, like Andromeda, where players can find entirely new and interesting things.

But now that I think about it, a full galaxy is probably too big, to be honest. It would devalue exploring the current one. I think the best thing would be one of the clusters you can see outside the galaxy. Smaller than the galaxy, probably with some sort of secret inside to be found, but still small enough that it can be more or less fully explored in a year or two.

And now I'm thinking about the possibility of more colonies. But maybe only ones of a certain size get a wormhole.

So technically jumping from star to star is using a wormhole where supercruise is using the classical star trek "warp bubble". Theoretically with the physics in the lore it might be possible to have a fixed warp gate you can fly your ship through. It would have to be huge, like bigger than an entire space port if we were going to transport a regular ship to another galaxy. That's because the bigger the FSD the further they can carry the ship so long as the weight of the ship isnt too high. That's why anacondas can reach up to 80, mega ships up to 500, and jaques station jumped 25,000. Of course it would be a one way trip unless there was an adjoining gate on the other side.

I wouldn't mind jumpgates.
They would offer short travel times between various places, and also lots of emergent content.

That's also my idea , if FD want to put some new content for everyone near colonia (for example) , warpgate/worohole may make this mway more entertaining. Also we could have event for their discovery/construction(stabilisation).

It's a very interessing idea to exploit some part of the galaxy while keeping an interest for classic exploration.

Edit : I take colonia as and example for some placement, tbh i'd love colonia to stay the very small system it is right now.

Im not expert but i dont think it fits the lore.
Meaby interstellar initiative with techno cranking up some star/experimental fuel so it will provide 1000x fsd boost, but as sporadic, one-way teleport?

i would like one to travel back in time to, say, version 2.0.09, as long as there is a checkpoint hangar on the other side where pilot's federation personell duly decontaminates any modules and flushes any "magic cargo bay of holding". 👌

it wouldn't even have to be bidirectional! 😅

Or to an update before engineers....
