Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'd kind of assumed that. Since I can't find anyplace in the 10 starter systems that I can buy limpets at (even if my cargo hold is empty), I'm guessing they aren't available until you go out into the wider galaxy.

They are available under the “Advanced Maintenance” screen in the “Restock” section, when looking at Starport Services.

This is not in the slightest bit obvious, I might add :)

Eh, will have to check that again. It's been whited out, implying I can't do anything. Thought it worked like Repair and Refuel in that you click the icon to restock.

Are you docked at an outpost? Some of them do not have the “resupply” function, so you can’t restock ammo or limpets from them.

Usually I'm docked at the main station in the system. Just upgraded to a Cobra mk III, and decided to replace the default 2 ton cargo rack with a 4 ton cargo rack... which is dedicated to collection limpets. I'm (currently) quite happy with having 16 tons of cargo space so don't mind losing the other 4 tons to limpets. Will have to look up how to use them before I go out to mine resources though.

Once you've got the process sussed, it's pretty straightforward. The thing is, you can chew through prospector limpets at an alarming rate, not to mention the slightly irritating short lifespan of a collector limpet :D And when they expire prematurely... grr :D

On another note, I adjusted the loadout of the Clipper for exploration. Nice. For a large ship, she handles really well and has a range of ~49lys - which I could tweak a little more. As far as I can see, apart from the awkward landings Chris mentions, the only other downside is its fuel - as in, at maximum range, you lose a 1/3 of a tank jumping. This is, however, offset somewhat by the rapidity of the suck rate of a 7A scoop.

Now, the question is, do I go exploring in the "Heart of Gold" or seek out a VO hotspot in "Tiffany Aching"? Oh, what a choice! :D

ETA - crippens - I can't type today. Don't know how many time I've edited this! :ROFLMAO: One thing I did notice was... 10k posts on this thread! Holy 10A power plant, Batman!

FWIW this is the build I have on my Explorer Clipper.

I went for the 7B fuel scoop, as it is only marginally less efficient than the 7A, but is much, much, cheaper :)
You’ll note that I haven’t fully lightweight modded everything, so you I could probably squeeze a few more ly out of her, but not anything really significant, to be honest. I also haven’t tweaked the engines as far as they could go, because it goes plenty fast enough with the G3 mod as it is, and I wanted to keep the mats for other things. I’ve spent quite a lot of time in Coriolis playing around with the build 😅

Chris is right about it being more awkward to find a landing spot for, but I’ve not found that a problem out in the black, because I can always just go somewhere else :) Most of the time when landing, I’m going for a geo / bio site for some driving and material collection, so if the site I arrived at doesn’t have a landing site, I just try another site. It is a very manoeuvrable ship though, despite it’s size, so you can usually find somewhere to settle in the end.

One of the more subtly frustrating things is the headlights. They are very narrow beam, and don’t illuminate a wide area, though this is really a very very minor consideration.

(Oh, and don’t look too closely at the landing gear. Most of the time, at least one of them is comically up in the air, and they all look far too small for the size of the ship 😅 )

Edit: Oh, and yes, keep your eyes on the fuel, and aim to fill up at each jump. I filter out non scoopable stars from the route planner when in the Clipper, just to make sure I don’t get a 3 jump route segment through Brown Dwarf hell.

What? You went against the imperial core values! Cheapskate! :p

I know, I know, shocking state of affairs for an Imperial Baron. I spent ages shoring up some Imperial systems against communist encroachment before I left as well, instead of mining, you'd think Arissa would have bestowed something on a loyal citizen in return. :D

I did splash out on the "ostentatious level" of paint-job though, which Imperial Starports recognise with a suitable level of obsequiousness ;)

(As it is, the 7B scoop is 1.7 million more than the actual cost of the ship. The 7A is 71 million more than the ship 😲 Which gives all of a 2 second improvement in full-tank scooping time 😯 )

If you refer to my post... I'd forgotten to change my power assignment after a pirate attack, so I only had 1 pip in engines for most of my runs tonight. The rest were 2 in shields and 3 in weapons. Thus speed was not something I was focusing on, thus I didn't feel the need for speed. Instead, I was maximizing profits via grabbing as many courier and delivery missions going to the same place as I could, then filling any remaining cargo space with goods to sell when I got there. This let me make 100k credits each trip, 3 trips total.

As for selling my limpet controller for more cargo space, currently I can buy a controller but can't get any collection limpets because it has an allowed stock of 0/0 and I can't find anything in the starting systems to change that. Thus I'm not even trying to do any mining right now since I find trying to scoop up the minerals myself to be a pain. Since the drone controller has been useless so far, I replaced it with 4 more cargo capacity. That I am finding much more useful. :)
Oh yeah, I've done that before. Notice the pips as I go off to make my first NPC pirate video. Rookie error. I'll probably delete that vid. It's slightly embarrassing.
