Triple Painite Mining

Do any triple Painite hotspots exist in the game?

And if so are they more profitable than LTD3? My understanding is that Painite is quicker to mine in large quantities than LTD...

I have tried it a few times in x2 spots with no luck.
If you find a high percentage rock they seem to treat you well but they are far and few between.
Again though... like I said, I really didn't spend a lot of time after my initial 3 hour attempt, just to finally to get 7 painite.

I tried a hot spot today, not a single painite rock found after 40 or so limpets. If someone could PM me with a nice double spot, I'd appreciate it (and will reciprocate if I find something out in the black).

Looks like there are only cores here now. Used to be laser mining. Maybe ring quality changed.

Sounds like you're in a metal-rich ring; they only contain painite cores. You need to go to metallic rings for laser mining painite.

The patch ruined the LTD3s.

It also reduced the productivity of double Painite hotspots by about 30% - at any rate, I mined the same hotspot in the same ship immediately before and after the patch, and that's what I saw.

However, I was able to sell the hour's worth of Painite I mined post-patch for about Cr 200m, so if you need to lay hands on mucho credits post-patch it's still possible to do so.

The biggest thing is to make sure you are in a metallic ring. Use to I would have to dump limpets to keep my bins processing. Now out of 512 limpets, I get about 400 painite.

Triple Painite hotspots ... I expect there's a few around somewhere, it's a big galaxy, but because it needs a metallic ring to be any good for laser mining, and because those are almost always (though not absolutely!) the narrow inner A-ring which has smaller hotspots, they're going to be exceptionally rare.

Thanks, this kind of information is crucial. Are there some official / unofficial sources to find and bind it all?

The two in-game documentation sources which can be combined to get most of it are:
  • Pilot's Handbook - Mining - Where to Mine
  • The descriptions for the various minable goods in the commodity markets
...and then a few minutes in any of the types of ring (no need for hotspots) firing off prospector limpet should give you an exact idea of exactly which minerals it means.

There are probably out-of-game lists of the exact mineral sets for each ring type, but really all you need to know is in the "Where to Mine" section plus the knowledge that except in very specific cases (a mining CG, if any of those ever happen again) only metallic and icy rings are important.

EDIT: that is, only important for laser/surface/subsurface-mining. If you're going for a core-only gem only the hotspot type matters and the base ring type doesn't.

All the monies. All of them.
It would be the new Borann (if next to or in the bubble)

I just imagined what would happen in the forums if a triple Painite hotspot were to be discovered in or next to Colonia and swarms of mining FCs were to descent on those poor colonial hermits like the locust plague in the Bible :LOL:

Urgh. That would be awful

For miners looking for a good Painite spot.

Hyades Sector DB-X d1-112 2. Target the hotspot closest to the inner ring (stay between the two hotspots) and try to come out of hyper at around 2.55Mm, then mine towards the locked up hotspot. If it takes you longer to mine 200t in a little under an hour, you're way off. 50% - 60% are constants.

Happy mining. :)

Thanks, I will check both in the future.

Edit: Nope, the in-game documentation does not provide this information.
To be precise: That you find only Painite cores in metal-rich rings, but cannot surface mine Painite there. And probably vice versa.
The Codex only says
"Metal rich: Mix of metallic and non-metallic resources
Metallic: Valuable metals"
The commodity market "... Painite is an incredibly valuable borate mineral ..."
That's all there is, really. Unless you sniff the ring.
I find this to be a source of frustration.

Edit 2: Finally found how to get information on a commodity in the Galaxy Map.
