I knew you were going to ask thatDo some in-game characters have psychic powers? Such as telekinesis and telepathy. If so what are the rules and limitations?
Is it considered fantasy since ED is more hard sci-fi?

Human characters no. Some humans have computer implants that can be used to send messages and information.Do some in-game characters have psychic powers? Such as telekinesis and telepathy. If so what are the rules and limitations?

Yes but me I also have psychic powers, because I know they are always already waiting behind every single asteroid of every asteroid ring of every system.Yes. Every single pirate has it, that's why they always find you instantly even though "you're a hard one to find", and why they are always already waiting for you behind every single asteroid of every asteroid ring of every system when you arrive.
I was about to reply "no, psychic powers aren't a thing in Elite lore", but this post convinced me otherwise.Yes. Psychic powers have been incorporated into Syfy settings before.Do some in-game characters have psychic powers? Such as telekinesis and telepathy. If so what are the rules and limitations?

They even appear in SC at your exact location after dealing with the previous "incoming threat", and interdict you right before you drop at the station.NPC know everything about you. They can even time their SC drops so imacutlately so you crash into them.
For me "psychic powers" already do.Psychic powers have been incorporated into Syfy settings before.
However magic would cross the line for me into fantasy.

Then there's stuff like multi-crew holo magic, messages instantly travelling across the galaxy while data needs to be delivered manually, "death", etc.ED is a "hard sci-fi" game and tends to eschew unnecessary magic/hyperscience. I'm not aware of any of the "old lore" from the previous games that mention humans possessing psychic powers. As Sensei mentioned above, the Thargoids have a "hive mind" (as is the standard insectoid sci-fi trope), without really explaining exactly how a hive queen can control a drone when they're sitting in separate spaceships.
The closest you can get to the paranormal are a few of the Generation Ship stories. There's the Thetis, where some kind of viral meme of unknown origin forced everyone who heard it to become a psychotic killer. Then there's the Artemis, which sounds suspiciously like the victim of a werewolf infestation. The cult leader aboard the Hyperion seems to have claimed to have some kind of supernatural abilities and it is difficult to explain how a child could otherwise have persuaded an entire shipful of people to commit suicide.

All is relative. From their perspective, they are just extremely lucky. As well as telepathic powers, NPC pirates also have superior kit to you so they can magically appear in the right position and SC faster in order to interdict you.![]()
From their perspective they also are surprised getting rekt by a Vette while flying an Eagle. All is relative. From their perspective, they are just extremely lucky.
