They still update the game with patches so they do care. It's remarkable that ED got so many updates for 5 years. Most games are put in maintenance mode after a couple of months.

Not games with an in-game cosmetics store.
Frontier decided they'd pick the "Games as a service" model for Elite. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
Yes BUT we were 2 full years no new content. Then the FC came and made such a mess of the game. Then Frontier FDEV's decided mining needed a good nerf, so they did and upset a great deal of people including myself. This patch 4 did nothing for me. Useless is what I would call them all. They never read the forums. They do not care about how the player base feels.
I am one Founder who is seriously considering giving up based on the performance of these so called Patches. Patches that break more than they fix!!!
Paint jobs are getting more attention than we all are!

Coincidentally it took 2+ years to develop Odyssey. So most resources went to that (and other franchises).
I absolutely agree with the development time/resources.
What surprises me though is that Frontier obviously knew there would be a few years with little new content. They should have had some plan to bridge those years.
I honestly think it would have been "relatively" easy for them to do a bit more with in-game narrative and lore. All the tools are already there but Frontier never uses them.
And they're not that great either.
But I suppose everyone has different, er, tastes. I too am a backer and felt a bit lost for what to do, so I joined a faction. It's provided for me a bit of a distraction from the hoo-har. Try joining a faction, AHEM ALD AMEM.
Really? I've seen plenty of evidence of the opposite of what you claim.
Yes we must recognize that Frontier listens but is the final decision maker of what to do.
Already during the DDF (Kickstarter era), Frontier had clearly indicated this fact.
Excited is not really the good word... I'm curious to see if what FDEV is going to present is actually what was introduced during the kickstarter campaing or if it's again something else that take a different path from the initial expectations...
