Leopards

I was hoping maybe for an African leopard or even the clouded leopard and possibly the black leopard. I noticed that the game only has one species of Leopard I feel like the game needs more leopards. They are beautiful creatures. That would be amazing.

The game definitely lacks the leopard as much as African rhinos. Leopards are an iconic animal and in the big five in Africa. All zoo game predecessors had them and I am pretty certain PZ will too.

Clouded leopard on the other hand is a completely different animal, meaning tigers, jaguars and lions are all more closely related to the leopard than clouded leopards are, so they should also definitely be added.

As for more than one leopard subspecies, I think that wouldn't be necessary especially considering how the number of animals per pack is turning out.

African leopards are not commonly kept in zoos. IMO the one we ought to have is the Amur leopard, which has a huge focus on conservation in the modern day.

I would really like to see the clouded leopard as well, it's one of my favourite animals. As @Ursidae says of course they are not related to the leopard (Panthera pardus) but are in fact part of their own separate genus (Neofelis).

Bengal tigers aren’t often seen in zoos either 🤷🏼‍♀️, so at least to me... that’s not really a good enough reason not to have them, since we have the bengal tiger. I personally would prefer the African leopard as it would complete the big five of Africa.

I’m really hoping we eventually get the Africa leopard (with the black colour variation of course)

There are quite a few choices on the roster that are either rare or non existent in zoos. I think Frontier wanted to balance common species in zoos with unique (and usually endangered) animals that aren't common in zoos but technically could be kept in captivity without problem. Given leopards in sub-Saharan Africa are (relatively) the least threatened around the world, this definitely doesn't fulfill the conservation aspect, but does fulfill the uniqueness as well as to help create the complete Africa feel along with the two African rhinos.

Another reason why I think African could be picked over Amur is the fact that we already have two big cats from the genus Panthera that regularly live in snowy conditions, a third would be too much in my opinion, considering the genus has better representation in the tropics, subtropics and warm temperate zones, as well as for gameplay reasons - creating unique habitats for the animals. A final reason could be the nostalgia effect since ZT1 had it on the roster.

Nice breakdown. I would also expect the African leopard over Amur or any leopard subspecies/population from tropical Asia since we already have the Siberian tiger and snow leopard to represent cats in the genus Panthera that live in cold climates and the Jaguar for the "spotted jungle cat" category, again from Panthera.

I personally hope they will include Amur leopard it in North Asia / China-Mongolia DLC along with:

Przewalski horse
Pere david deer
Saiga Antelope or Takin

That would make a spectacular 4 for me.
I would also love to see the Amur leopard in the long run, don't get me wrong. The above assessment is purely representative of the limited resources the game's development will eventually have. Wish we could have hundreds of animals down the line.

Yeah, those other three you mentioned are also definitely on my list :)
