Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

True, my Courier and Vipers (even in combat fitting) are ultra-high speed, have chaff and are so small that you really have no hope in hell to kill it before it is out of range. And even my Multi-role FDL has no plenty of shields that I can finish my drink and then high-wake. But that kinda is the point: the game balance of ED is so weird (which is a polite way of saying really really really bad) that there are no 'legit ganks' against an opponent anywhere close in experience and gear. To kill another player that doesn't want to be killed the 'victim' must be inexperienced and fly a feeble ship. And that is a big reason for why ganking is such a thing. I am sure most PvP players would love to interdict me and blow my shiny FDL up (which would suck as it has 0% paint after all these years). But being decent is skilled enough to defend yourself 100% of the time against even the best PvP player in the game. Its like a game of chess where one of us has only our King and the other has the King and a Knight; nobody is going to win, no matter how skilled the guy with the Knight is. We're wasting each other's time.

For sure!

Feel free to send me one if I take to long, my cmdr name is the same as well. :) But do note that I am in Colonia, lately don't play all that much (waiting for moar content after six years...) and live in Carcosa. If you decide to come over you'll have to deal with Big Meanies like Bicmaec. :p
I'm mostly harmless.

Yes, but being decent is the first step to being a PVPer! Haha, the nefarious endgame of the gankers revealed at last.

Truly though, I wish there was a no consequence, no grind version of CQC with no powerups, the way to join as a wing with your mates, and the full spectrum of ships & upgrades (including engineering) available to choose from.

In the meantime, that "exists" in the sense of arranged wingfights at Shin and San Tu... but god is it a long road to get there. And as mentioned, I had expert help. And it's easier than it's ever been. Still way too difficult for normal people to tolerate.

Anyways, I will look you up when I'm in the neighborhood. Thanks for your comments here, I think they help surface some important things about ganking. Some do truly prefer to prey on the weak. Others choose differently.

It's yet another fractal iteration of the many and varied expectations that people bring to this hot mess of a game mode called Open.

Huh... BM - - yeah right! He's one of the few to see this:

In truth he crashed into me - but it looks good 😹
He was kind enough to send me the screengrab!

It's hard to know if this is confirmation bias, dumb luck, or otherwise.

I'd have pulled you, unless I was already pulling someone else.

And sent you a friend request afterwards, regardless of outcome.

That's how I used to work when I went out clubbing. And I mean with The Ladies as opposed to seal-clubbing!

Joking aside, I'll send you a friend request too - find me if I forget, like Ian said too :) Name is in signature, forum name is the closest I could get!
I'm not much for PvP though as you know, but am still planning to sign up to Sir G's school. Just don't randomly turn up when I'm hauling bgs stuff, or I might become my commander name in reality lol! ;) Advance warning is the key!

That's just putting words in my mouth plus a poor generic insult. Not sure what your goal was with that post, but best of luck with it.
I'm sorry you feel that way, Mr. Skippy. It was no more an insult then your own comment I'm sure. Anyhow, I'm new here and unsure of the forum pecking order, so please excuse my impertinence:)

...And another thing!

The OP's name totally punctures my immersion if/when I encounter them in game.

I'd still fight for their right to choose that name though, even though it makes me dislike them on an almost personal level.

Imagine if something as miniscule as a name damages my in game experience this much - how much something that has no basis in "in game" reasoning (like my own personal definition of ganking) must damage it.

Just for a bit more context, and a small insult.

:)

(the smiley face makes it ok though.)

god I know right

when I first started this name I was like "oh no what should I name my character I hate naming characters"

and then joined the game and looked at the tags people had left on planets and was like "ah, yes, that famous space adventurer... yoloswag420"

I have no idea what you two are talking about

I don't know. People call 'silly names' immersion breaking, but have you seen vanity plates and baby names lately? Technology might improve in the future, but I doubt our species will grow up much.
