Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road To Odyssey Part 1 - One Giant Leap

Greetings Commanders,

Make sure you are parked at the nearest Fleet Carrier or station and pour yourself some Lavian Brandy in your favourite Hutton Mug. It is time for the first Elite Dangerous: Odyssey dev diary - One Giant Leap!

We are more excited than the Far God Cult being scanned by a Thargoid to bring you the first devdiary on our road to Odyssey, check it out here:

The first in a series of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey dev diaries One Giant Leap explores how commanders can experience light atmospheres and break new ground with exploration on foot for the first time.

Stay tuned for future episodes set to dive-in to combat, missions, environments and co-operative play over the coming months.

Tonight, we will be streaming a Discovery Scanner episode at 18:00 (UTC) on the Elite Dangerous Official Twitch Channel, to take a deeper look into the dev diary with CEO David Braben, and Senior Designer Derin Halil.

Please, PLEASE! Let us walk around our ship's interior! I know for a fact that my Imperial Cutter has a pool inside I wanna swim in it!

Good to see the revamped ice planets will finally be implemented!

The vid was shorter than I expected and showed less than I hoped, but I'm honestly pleasantly surprised how many times exploration was mentioned. Hopefully the FSS gets improved to be more fun to use as well.

Looking forward to learning more about Odyssey over the next half year.

I cannot help, but....

...with a new dimension added...

and you removed one dimension, the only TRUE 3D dimension - VR. Back to 2D.

and

...you actually see your ship in front of you and you understand how massive these ships actually are...

I've seen my ships in VR. Either in dock, or from the SRV. In VR, they are absolutely massive. At least the big ones. All VR players are aware of it. You have no idea until you see it with your own eyes.

So to, almost quote Neil Armstrong: Odyssey will be a small step forward for 2D players, but a giant leap backwards for 3D players.

Still watching the stream here, and the planet tech really does look a quantum leap forwards, but also a treat to see DBOBE in the flesh, and looking really well too. Don't see enough of this CEOmmander who could imo still charm the hind legs off an Arcturan Megadonkey.

Not watching myself, will catch later as too much real life to deal with atm. Glad it's looking good.
