Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

I have to say I'm somewhat skeptical of those survival elements...

I mean, if I suffocate inside my suit, will I respawn to last dock 10k ly away? Or will it be like "oh man, I'm out of telepresence space suits now, as the wardrobe module comes with just two."

Why not lead with that then? Why only show us stuff we've been experiencing for many years now, except with a character standing around and prettier planet graphics? Have you ever seen a No Man's Sky video? Go look it up. They actually show the game play possibilities. If FDev have put 100 people on 2.5 years of dev on Odyssey so far, they should have more to show for it. The article interviews make it sound like significant things that need to exist are still in the air.

I've been dreaming of this since Braben said it in 2014. It was supposed to be in June's update for Star Citizen but Covid pushed it back. So still no Bespin City for ol' me yet.
I thought it was more recent than that on a Lave Radio thing? I have it in my head within the last 2 years

The cloud cities are a bit iffy from the realism point of view though. They mainly make little sense, except on maybe Venusian atmos.

I've seen plenty of NMS videos, all exemplary...

of why I don't play NMS.

Bespin or that scene from jupiter ascending. Where that huge ship enters a gas giants atmosphere and the clouds reveal a massive floating base. Visually impressive movie, pretty bad story tho.

How badly is the game being held back by 7 year old consoles that had mediocre specs at their launch? Pre-Ryzen AMD CPUs were horrible, and 1.7 teraflops of graphics power is pathetic by today's standards. It would be interesting to know.

Yeah, this is a large concern. Is the game being dropped by last gen consoles once the new gen is out? I really hope so.

I really, really, really hope so, too. The Series X and PS5 ain't so powerful, but having those at least lower mid-range specs would be better than what the old consoles have. Would hold PC back not as much when we've got 12 gigs of ram to work with, and the such.

From this Twinfinity interview, this short extraction is exactly what I'm so eagerly waiting for (survival aspects, yay!). I really hope they don't botch it:

That's the stuff with way more hype potential than any other visual enhancements (including VR) could ever have to me. But again: Don't botch it, FDev. That was an order, not a demand. 😁

And why would you go from A to B ? you know you have game doing that a lot better than FD will ever do...(talking about survival environment)

So in the future you might get inside spaces, but not right now.

So very, very disappointed...I'm guessing we're getting a uniform "EVA Airlock at top of ladder / ramp of ship" similar to the hangars for SLF and SRV. So you'll still get to 'walk off the ship' and have the footstep moment, which is good, but there is still no sentimental attachment to the interior of the ship. We're still going to have a disjointed 'fade to black' and then "I'm at the door" moment or "I'm in the seat" moment.

Gonna look really weird for SRV if there's not some sort of smooth transition of climbing in and out, but I'm guessing this has to do with how they instance these various 'modes' of travel. Rather than the SRV be an asset useable on the ground, it's more akin to a limited flight model...which jacks with instancing and 'popping in and out'.

.....and depending on what year the NMS video is from they also show gameplay impossibilities.

Sorry I know needling NMS is low hanging fruit but really what's more to discuss when all your arguments consists of frontier forum tropes like 100 devs and NMS comparisons.

Are you serious ? There is 10000 more love and content in this game than in ED... Only advantage for ED is the BGS.

Oh I assume SRV won't be touched at all. It will continue to use the fade to black. Only now it also works for space legs.
