Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

Love the part where they talk about seeing our ship from outside .. FOR THE 1ST TIME . "srv existance: ignored"

(TBH the whole biological sample thing seems really cool (hope it's not to grindy tho XD) )

If there is no walking around ships then it will be a simple fade to black and your outside scenario, probably with a cut scene going down a ladder or standing on a lift as it takes you to the surface. Pretty much what we saw in one of those commander chronicle videos.

Players should be able to at least walk manually up a ladder, lift to the front of the ship's door imo.

Just pray it isn't a several-second unskippable cut scene. You'll be wishing for a fade-out-fade-in transition after watching it for the thousandth time.
And even more so if you actually had to walk over, and push a button, wait for an elevator, doors to open, then actually climb down stairs. I think transitions are the way to go. Just think of the number of times players go in and out of stations, and land on planets. Actually doing the walking would be interesting the first dozen times you do it, but after that, it is nothing more than an unnecessary time sink.

We all suspected there was a very good chance of no ship interiors, but one thing I wasn't expecting them to say was "no, but we're working on it". Usual SOP is either "flat denial" or "nothing to announce". So that's a silver lining.

The word used was "considering" which is a fair bit different from "working on".

Makes you wonder what that 100+ team has been doing for the last 18-24 months.
It really truly does. Years of development, and we can't even stand up in our own ships? This is what people have waited for? I am glad my expectations were tapered years ago because of Frontier's track record. The update seems to keep proving my suspicions. At this rate, I will likely wait 2-3 years before purchasing it, when the content is actually in the update you would expect from it.Then again, it may never come, or be slated for the next expansion. (Like ice worlds now being an Odyssey selling point after they were cancelled from Horizons. Walking around your ship will be a 2026 Elite Dangerous Andromeda update)

We’re planning to have a variety of activities that players can engage in on planet surfaces; from settlements, down to what we call points of interest which we call transient elements that can kind of spawn in and out which allows us to fill the surface up a little bit.

This I'm not too excited about.. The generated POIs that vanish the moment you disconnect or leave the area.
I was hoping they were moving away from this system.
I mean, it's ok that enemies and such spawn randomly. But entire installations or derelict ships, that pop up and then go poof, really drags down the whole experience.

You'r a funny guy !
I wish I was joking.

I just hope there isn't like a G6 or G7 level of ship engineering that requires these "new" biological materials. But you know there will be.

I can barely tolerate crystal shard farming in the SRV. Having to do it on foot with space gardening shears sounds awful.

But it's the future, so... time to buckle up, I guess.

I have been waiting for years for planets that look like these, so I see it as time well spent. Couldn't care less about walking around in my ship. Plenty of other games for that kind of stuff.

Yea, I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of actual progress on the expansion based on these two articles. Someone asked in this thread, "What has this team of over 100 been working on for 2+ years?" I think that seems like a valid question based on those two articles.

From the articles, it sounds like all that has been done is about a Star Citizen level of achievement from 2018, i.e. it looks like they've just been working on a tech demo.

We're supposed to believe this is 6 to 8 months away from release? I can't imagine this is true, unless it is completely bare bones.

Hopefully we'll see some real progress in what the expansion game play actually is soon.
