Am I missing something about the Witch Head Nebular or is it really this annoying?

I have been Thargoid (not Thargon i'm not that 1337 yet) in the Pleiades sector for poopoos and chuckles and then suddenly (after some rum) decided to hit the witch head area and meet matey-boys female protage' cos I'm so charming as stuff.

I did a few planetary scan missions 'cos I actually enjoy them even though I've more money than God and got myself Wanted (I'm always wanted by space cat-girls and 'Big' Rocko but that's another story).
One docking and being sent to a prison (the showers where both horrible and enchanting in equal measures) later I flew 650LY or so back to the Witch head nebular and checked for IF stations....

Do I have to go back to Pleiades to clear a couple of grand in fines, not bounties, just fines, if I want to do slightly dubious missions in that area; or am I missing something obvious due to age, incompetence and/or stupidity?



If it's the latter then please be nice or my fee-fees will be hurt.

You can always not pay the fines / bounties.

I've done some naughty things in the Witch Head too (precisely those planet scan missions, as there it's easy to take over a dozen missions to the same system and do them all in a row), then I cashed in the missions and never cared about the fines ever again. You just have to take the precaution of never pooping where you eat and vice versa.

Thing is, I commited the crimes in Siniang and landed in Shenve and stil got nicked. I'm normally pretty good with this sort of thing but unless I got Wanted by the faction I took the mission from I'm at a lose...

There's an Interstellar Factors facility at the Witch Head Science center in HIP 23759
(and you can filter for them under Services in the Galaxy Map)

In Witch Head running supplies from the Outpost - got a fine, now what?

So I'm running supplies to Empire stations in Witch Head and I was talking to my wife when coming up on docking. I forgot to ask for docking permission and got a trespassing fine, now I can't sell commodities and there is no authority contact in the Empire systems to clear my fine. I just went...

Yep, I’m afraid you are...

You don’t need an IF for fines whatsoever.

Fines are money you owe. If you want to get rid of a fine, all you need to do is go to whoever issued you with the fine and pay them.

Again, you don’t need to use an IF for fines. Nor should you if you can easily reach the fine issuer, as the IF will charge you a handling fee on top of the fine, whereas going direct to the issuer you just pay the fine.

As per standard for fines, once you pay the fine it’s cleared, and that’s all there is to it. The fine’s cleared, any service restrictions are lifted, and you’re good to go.

You don’t get shot for fines, and you don’t get sent to the prison when you pay a fine.


In 99% of cases where something happens contrary to that, it’s because the person has got a bounty, not a fine, but are treating it as though they got a fine, not a bounty.

Can’t tell from your post whether:

- that’s what happened to you, or

- you’re already completely clear that you had a bounty on you which was what resulted in you getting sent to the prison, and are just checking what happens should you just have fines

If it’s the former then I wouldn’t worry about it. It happens loads. 😀

That's the spirit. When I travelled out to Colonia with wing mate we both had full cargo holds too, occupied escape pods and osmium in our case, even though they're easy enough to get, anywhere. Meta Alloys on the other hand ...

A storyline had 2 branches, beating the Thargs all the time is where we are now.

You really really need to try and work out how to use the 3rd party sites, eddb - or especially inara can tell you this type of thing instantly

the Lore Tour. I was a few weeks behind but its in the last half of them, fairly sure its in one of the FR episodes. Its not really new info, they always said there were at least 2 branches to the storylines, a win or fail. They havent explicitly said, but the community rarely if ever fail so we always get the 'win scenario' but the Lore Tour comments kind of back it up and say there was at least one serious or significant fail scenario that we never saw.

I just wonder sometimes if we went for the fail scenario what would happen, if we let the Thargs have the WNH again for example would it lead to something else?

I'm with inara and I can hunt for s%%t and all that, but i'll be streight with you 'ol chap, in China you can hardly get any sind of human reaqction unless its "XI IS NUMBA 1" and that dort of poo poo. when I've had a few rums sometimes I just needs a bit of human contact from my space bros

It’s not possible to know yet whether we’re actually in the win scenario or the lose scenario.

Sure, we’re in the short term ‘win’ scenario, but is that also the long term ‘win’ scenario? It may well not be. Depends how sophisticated FD are being with it all.

Edit - to elaborate further, it’s all very shady. An AEGIS report directly stated some previous supposition - that the hostilities from the Thargoids were (at least in part) a response to things done by humanity recently, specifically invading Thargoid territory, occupying it, and pillaging their stuff.

Others (including AEGIS themselves) have then span completely different stories. And people did what people do.

The long term ‘win’ scenario may actually have derived from us simply withdrawing from the Thargoid areas we were in, and giving them back as much of the stuff we’d taken as we could.

Equally, that could have been a disaster.

We’re in a position where we just don’t have sufficient information to know.

What does seem fairly clear though is that a major driver in the actions of the powers that be is short term commercial interests and greed. That stuff often doesn’t turn out to be in the best interests to the people that are on the ground doing the work. 🤷‍♂️

Well I hope this is where the 'making things go wrong for players' comes into play.

Accepted we dont know where we are as such and long term there will be blowback and re-invasion or something, I sometimes just wonder what the other side of the fence looks like where every CG failed for example and 75% of Tharg attacks succeeded. How much of the bubble would burn? Not all of it obviously, but how much?
