Porting from Frontier to Steam question.

I own a copy of ED on steam and have about 200 hours of playing starting from a noob. I also own a copy of ED that I bought directly from Frontier, and have over 1,000 hours starting from a noob. I understand that the new DLC will only be available through steam and one can port their progress from frontier to steam using some sort of key. Using the key, will my copy located at steam be upgraded to my present status. Do I have to uninstall frontier's copy and download steams copy.
The switching from frontier to steam and keeping ones progress, to me is very confusing.

You probably want to keep both CMDRs, so create a second Steam account to link the Frontier version to. See this thread for a few ideas on how to do this. I'm not sure if you will be able to swap the 2 CMDRs using the CD keys, Steam can be picky sometimes and may think you are trying to gift the game away, which is against the TOS.

As long as you have the files in a Steam Library that is the same for both accounts you will not need 2 copies of the game, but you will need to have a Steam copy - which it sounds like you already do.

I have a copy that I purchased from steam, but deleted it from my pc when I bought a copy from frontier. Should I download my steam copy or continue to utilize frontier's version. Because I purchased the steam version after April of last year, the steam version must utilize the steam launcher it will not boot up utilizing the frontier launcher. My internet speed has increased 100 fold and now I'll be able to utilize steam. My question is basically, how do I maintain my present progress using frontier's version when I download steams version which has been saved to their cloud and have considerably less progress.
Do I first delete my frontier version and then download steams and if so, how and where do I utilize the KEY that frontier offer's.

Glad you asked this question OP, I have 3 Frontier accounts. I was unaware that they would be dissolved and migrated to Steam. Thank you so much Frontier.

Since my internet upgrade I won't have any issues with using steam if it's a mandate. My question is, how do I maintain my present progress. I don't think anyone wants to have to start from scratch or from a point in progress that is far from there present progress.
I just checked and my steam version has just over 650 hours of play, and my frontier version on my pc has just over 2,000. I don't want to have to redo the past 1350 hours again.

Indeed.

At this time both the base game and Horizons can be purchased on the Frontier store. At this time I have no reason to believe that Odyssey will be unavailable on the Frontier store once it is released.
That's true, when I clicked on the base and the horizon, I stayed on frontier's site. When I clicked on the Odyssey, I was taken to steam.

........

Actually when you go the the real FrontierStore you will see that there is no link to an Odyssey wishlist blurb:

Bit worrying that instead of PC the option is described as 'Steam'. Perhaps buying direct from Frontier isn't going to be available 'at launch' or maybe it's to do with Frontier trying to get customers wishlisting Odyssey on Steam.

Google finds this:

You may be able to copy/move your current files to the correct location for Steam to find. If you don't then it will just download them all anyway.

Reckon I've got time to get it all sorted out. Sure would be a lot easier if frontier just continues their sales and installations.
