Newcomer / Intro Reincarnation location after self-destruct

Hi all,

Newish commander here. I have gone off crystal hunting and now plan on heading out to maybe a nebula and get my 5k lightyears. two questions,

1) I docked at a station in the bubble as last station dock but I went into a Fleet carrier in the crystal system for hot-dog and beer. If I go out for my 5k and self destruct will I wake my eyes to the station in the bubble or at the at the Fleet Carrier? I saw similar questions re fleet carrier res paradoxes but I am not sure there was a good answer.

2) How can I easily see how far I have gone to meet my 5k? does the engineer pop open or i assume I would need to visit him to unlock? I found something in the codex page of 4th panel but it seemed to be how far i have traveled rater than how far from my start point.

pps - is the rosetta nebula worth a visit? or would someone recommend some other holiday location?

1) I have not done this myself but I would expect you respawn at the Fleet Carrier. You respawn at the nearest suitable station in the system you died in and otherwise in the station you most recently docked at. Since FCs count as stations...

2) In the Codex under commander data in the exploration tab (I think).

All nebulae are worth a visit. Beautiful sights and good chances of finding planets with biological features.

For surprising holiday locations take one of the long-range passenger missions where a 'famous explorer wants to visit' some place. Those locations were recommended by players.

Having somebody else's carrier as your "save point" can yield... interesting results. Their owners don't move often, but when they move, it's usually a substantial distance.

For example imagine you self-destruct and respawn on the carrier only to find yourself sitting next to Sag A* :LOL:

Landing on fleet carriers overnight can be quite risky. They can leave and travel waaaaaaaaay out into the galaxy when it suits them. When you log on you may find yourself on the opposite side of the galaxy. You're save point goes with em. Most folks avoid overnight docking on available Fc's that permits docking to anyone.
Recently a very new player posted a thread after he parked his lil sidewinder on an FC. Logged on days latter and found himself 15k + lyrs away. He was wondering how to get back. The obvious and only answers was self destruct.

Since you are seemingly prepared for a 5k ly journey, it's not very risky (unless you don't have a fuel scoop yet) and may end up as a simple mistake of overnight docking on an FC being more a matter of an annoying inconvenience.

The best advice is that if you're not willing or prepared to take that chance, then don't make it a habit to overnight dock on carriers.

Re 2) Do you have the knowledge that Palin exists already from Marco Qwent? If so, you should get the invitation automatically when you have travelled far enough. If not, as others have mentioned, check the codex. The codex can also be used to check your progress even if you know about Palin (the progress bar on Palin’s page is broken ...)

If we are thinking of the same thread, this was allegedly a hypothetical scenario about a poor new commander. ”Asking for a friend”

There was also anothe thread where it actually happened to someone, but they did not present themselves as ”new” ...

It might be useful to be able to see the location of your res point - Jameson's is unlikely to move but it may be useful to see if your last docked FC is at Sag A or Beagle rather than Sol where you last stepped onboard.

I never understood this one either. There must be some distance beyond which you are spawned at the closest station instead of the most recently used one, but from my experience this distance cap must be quite large. Definitely more than hundreds or lightyears.
I doubt we're gonna get a straightforward number from Frontier, though.

Hmm... should I try going to Sag A* a couple of times and try to die at various distances to find out at which point I'm going to start spawning at the Colonia checkpoints instead of my home system?

Didn't someone do a route to get to Colonia that way a year or two ago or did that one involve getting yourself sent to various prison ships.

Never heard of that, but yeah, sounds about right. It wouldn't be Elite players if they didn't try to exploit a thing like that is some way. :LOL:

I did a test in April - couple of videos:

1) If there is a shipyard in the system then you can rebuy in that station (even if you have not docked there).

2) If there is no shipyard in the system then your rebuy choice is the last station you were docked - not the nearest shipyard.




(You can also always take the freewinder option - in this case it was in Ay Indi as you cannot freewinder into the noob-zone if you have lost the permit - older accounts use their original starting location,)

Very nice para handy has done this his test. April was before Fleet Carrier implementation so would be very intesting to do now.
