Kids Played Planet Zoo

On their own computer, I launch Planet Zoo the next day on my computer and all my saves are gone. So all the work I did on my zoo after the Australian pack came out is gone, says I haven't played that park since 8/14. Why is it replacing files in my personal save folder?

In game menu, go to "My Zoo" any files?
If yes, then just click the one you want to play and you are good.
If no, then check here
C:\Users\[your username here]\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Planet Zoo\ <user-id> \Saves

Are there any files in there?

Did that, somehow the game files from their computer copied over all of mine. Mine are still there, but from 8/14. So all progress in the last two weeks is completely gone.

How odd. Are you using the same steam account? So far I am aware it uses cloud saves, so it might be possible it copied over something when you started up the game on a different PC.

Planet Coaster is not Planet Zoo, they might have some similarities, but that doesn't mean that because PC does/doesn't PZ do/don't. You have to look at them as separate games. But it is weird for PZ to do something like that you are right on that. But it might be a different issue, can't say. At least you seem to still have some of the files from two weeks at least.
Did anything change with the computers during that time? Update? I know Planet Zoo has updated since then, so maybe the update had a hiccup.

Ok I might have misunderstood you so let me see if I have gotten it correctly.

You are playing Planet Zoo on 2 different PC, you play on yours and your kids on theirs. You have both been playing it fine for 2 weeks until today where your files have gotten overwritten. The kids where playing yesterday but when you booted up the game today on your PC, your saves had been overwritten.
You still have your saves for 2 weeks ago somehow.

That is correct. Going into another zoo I discovered at least I have all my purchased animals. I've disabled cloud syncing now on both computers. I think I'm screwed though, so much progress lost. I basically added a whole zone to that zoo and finished the first one I had been working on.

Yeah I got no clue what could have gone wrong, perhaps someone else does. Really sorry your lost all your work. Perhaps check your kid's pc and see if they have your saves.

This isn't accusatory because I don't know the age of your kids or how computer game savvy they are but is it possible they accidently saved over or deleted your zoos? Also what are your save settings for PZ - is it saving to the steam cloud? If so then I would suggest contacting steam as a first point of call to see if they can work out what happened as it's just as (or maybe more) likely to be a Steam issue as it is a PZ - I've never heard of anyone encountering this as a bug before. It's possible the update introduced something weird and it's really rare and I guess most people only play on one machine but I don't see how an update like the one we've had could completely erase your saves.

I have lost parks this way with planet coaster. Using the steam cloud and multiple computers can be great but you have to be so careful it syncs correctly. Best to disable the cloud sync unless you want to play the same zoos on multiple computers. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything Frontier can do as this isn't the game itself, but rather Steam.

Planet Zoo is "Family Sharing"-compatible, going with a 2nd Steam-Account should avoid sync-problems.
And of course, backups can help also.

I think it was the Steam Cloud, so that's disabled now. At least it was only one zoo, and now I can fix some design issues that I was working on how to change before this happened.
