What's the clearence for animals when building

I wanna know how to make indoor buildings for animals like elephants, rhinos, and giraffe without them being stuck inside or outside.

I don't think there's a clear answer to this except "trial and error". Most animals seem perfectly fine with a doorway the size of a single wall piece but this wouldn't be the case for giraffes, elephants, and so on. I tend to overcompensate in many ways.
