Lets take stock for a minute and say cheers for the good things that came this week...

Just a thought, and I'm aware I'm probably gonna get branded a white knight* for posting this; but there's obviously been a lot of behind the scenes work that's went into bringing us all the good things that came to the game this week, such as Galnet, Narrative, Odyssey VR, Station Interiors (coming in future dev diary) etc... So after three months "in the trenches" fighting for the future of VR, I'm obviously a very happy CMDR now, and the cup runneth over with Galnet etc, so I'd like to take this moment to say thank you to the people who have been listening, and advocating the wishes of the community, and everyone who has been or will be involved in the recent wave of good things.

I hope everyone involved has a great weekend and a few well deserved beers, and I'd also hope that others who've benefited might chime in here to say cheers o7

*it would be oh so ironic to brand me a white knight after three months of forum guerilla warfare on VR, but hey, that's how this place rolls sometimes.

So after three months "in the trenches"

Rookie numbers.

Five years on Powerplay hill, man and boy.

I'm also happy 😊 but at the same time I feel drained. Never knew fighting for something was so emotionally tiresome. So much coming in the near future its a lot to take in. Now that Vr is back I'm gonna go look at my first Fleet Carrier purchase. Got to get my ducks in order before Odyssey drops...Your not a white knight , your just passionate for a game you believe in.

I’m happy, yes, but the war’s not really over until we get actual 3D VR with legs content. The 2D screen in a 3D space gets old, as I’ve seen with PSVR. I worry about how many years it will take, what with the baby steps FDev likes to take these days.

Better than taking off the headset or playing the whole game as a monitor peasant, though.

Gotta be honest, I was very surprised to here about station interiors. Was expecting them to use the already present cockpits/bridges as some form of ship interiors, but oh well.

Note how I didn't say "exited", just surprised. As far as I can tell, Odyssey is shaping up to be just a No Man's Sky clone, but with a 1:1 galaxy.

I at least hope it's a good NMS clone.

The new developments look like pure awesome to me. I have promptly abandoned my plodding mining for fun and profit and my Nav beacon destruction of baddies for rank and mats, and placed four large AX MCs on my T-10 to go help with the supply and rescue efforts at the burning stations.

If nothing comes out of it but a few supply runs, fine. I can go hunt goids elsewhere. But yay we have our stories back!

As for how VR is going to work out: I'll take a projected screen in my headset as cool beans. As long as I get my head look working, I can probably survive pseudo-flatland until full-fledged VR gets implemented.

TLDR; The good things that have come from the past weeks:
  • A lot of specifics on what FDev have committed to going forward, at least to 2022. How it impacts us and what it may mean for us.
  • The Quality of communication targeted at the community
And the rest is in the details of their blogs.

TL;
I too have been frustrated by the lack of clear communication in some of the 'black-out' periods where nobody was able to deal with the (high level) issues brought forward by the community. Galnet and information about intentions is one such example. The communication was there initially, but at some stage I think we felt stone-walled.

In retrospect we can see that it should have been possible to manage these questions and expectations by having a bit verbose and clear communication.
And I don't mean what the 'insider' program brings and delivers of information to us. These kinds of dialogs must be held on a platform which supports it. Forum is a good example. you can have two-way feedback. Facebook, less qualified as it has other issues providing a dialog on 3rd party platform (as some of us abstain due to privacy concerns).
Youtube / Twitter are tools for monologues, not that great for two way communication.

I like how well the dialog initiated by FDev has picked up here on the forum where we can chose to participate with feedback.
Of course there will be some frustrated people. Not everything can or should be answered due to spoilers or marketing reasons.
But in my view the thought process behind the communication is clearly visible in a manner so that I can start believing how committed they are.

We now know there's a longer term commitment to lore, content and and a way for us to have an influence on the direction Elite is taking.

Thank you FDev, for the real quality improvement of your communication as well as being clear about your intentions and commitment to us.
