Interiors, why?

Gameplay. Lol.

My other half isn’t much into games - but will happily spend a good hour with me browsing through the paint jobs and finding the best colour schemes for any ships I have. No gameplay there, but FD make a mint out of her “ooh the green one is nice”

The camera suite has no gameplay attached to it at all - yet I use it a huge amount. If it went, I’d be horrified. No reason why I can’t have an internal camera suite.

Personally I gave up on it and just assumed frontier spouted it out during the kickstarter to get more funding. That's what a kickstarter is, selling a dream, not a final product. Over the years it became blatently obvious that it was never coming and looking at development of other space games, it's a very difficult thing to accomplish, much more than frontier are capable of obviously.
Now go back a few weeks and imagine you were talking about a) first person on planets, and b) first person in stations.

Until it happens it's so easy to just claim it's never coming.

All true and important but fdev decided they were worth the development time to add, when weighed up against the development time required.

I'm not going out on a really long limb by suggesting adding full ship interiors is likely to be seen as too much work if all the benefits are purely cosmetic.

Tbh OP , that's my feeling about legs in general.

When you have all space open to you , why would you ever want to take 4years to develop some elaborate gameplay on planet.

We already got srv :/

Yeah nomansky did it well , i can see the point , but elite have much more potential in space too.

Maybe, but it was mentioned about hiring scientists to research alien life forms, does this mean explorers who don't hire scientists will be disadvantaged by not being able to research alien life forms? You can see how this goes, suddenly without crew you are not getting the same rewards, pushing everyone into the same path.

Yes it might be optional but you earn less money, then we've got interdictions leading to boarding, what's optional there? If I don't have crew I can't defend my ship? Got to be careful how your optional works out, it might end up being optional to have but necessary to play.

Interdiction leading to boarding sounds beter than interdiction leading to 10 seconds and death at the hands of a PvP build, and if you can escape a PvP build then you can escape before boarding is even a glimmer in the eye of the pirate. I can't see it being too popular if FD implement it anyway, what's in it for the pirate? Cozy in the seat of their engineered META PvP kill machine, why on earth would they leave that safe cocoon and venture out where a projectile could separate their brains from their head?

No idea about the science stuff, but I doubt that's going to matter to someone interested in sciency gameplay stuff (technical term there). Let's face it you don't explore to make money fast in Elite do you?!!

Of course it could all be a fuster cluck if FD don't design the gameplay to be decent. I can see plenty of ways ship interiors can be good that don't revolve around pew pew. Mainly PvE and not PvP.

I presented a way boarding would be worth it earlier in the thread.

But I was talking about piracy, smuggling and bounty hunting, not murder. Obviously, if you're just murdering ships nothing will make you want to board another ship.

Boarding would be fun for reasons other than ship killing but I'd have suggested that's a given surely.

Can we just be honest about the real point of these Space Legs? ED is trying to be Star Citizen but ED can't be Star Citizen. Unless these programmers pull off some tremendous feat, some entire engine rewrite, how's this going to work, without it being and looking completely lame? I guess I'll just shut and wait n see, but seems like a NMS opening day moment coming here, and I just don't want my beloved ED jacked! IAM ALL for atmospheric world's, yes, new adventures, yes, much needed graphical improvement, yes, new ships and weapons and game play missions, yes. Walking...? Ah, no, unless it can be done in stunning detail. Has FDEV every really done much that's stunning in this game? Ah, no. I have a Spidey sense that it's going to be stunning but in a bad way. Just my guess, but hope IAM wrong. I, personally, would be fine with improved missions, new updated graphics, toss around some new things to discover, but I see no need to WALK anywhere to engage this stuff. Guess we'll see. Going to be interesting, to say the least.

I missed that post originally, it's good. I may be wrong but I thought Varonica was mainly tallking about PvP? They'll corect me if I am, but I was mainly talking about that aspect. From a PvE point of view ship interiors (as your post shows) has a multidude of gameplay options. IF FD can do it right! Which seems to be the sticking point....can they do it right?

1) Multicrew
2) Gameplay mechanics related to damage control, piracy, ship theft. eva repair/cosmetics.
3) Ship customization.

Who knows? :D

At least we'll get an isolated view of fps with the launch and that might give us a clue if ship boarding might even be viable or not. Just so many ways it could go. It's exciting but equally you get the fear that it'll be a naff missed opportunity.

Just a few questions respectfully to you people.

Why exactly do you want to walk around in your ships? In what way will it make everything better? Why wouldn’t you rather have new ships to pilot than have huge amounts of work sunk into making Doom Eternal level sized ship interiors?

Because, yeah it is a gigantic amount of work. I modelled a few military vehicles for work and it was a very long process. The longest I did took 6 months, it was a tank. It’s smaller than most cockpits in Elite.

Seriously just walking around will captivate your attention for a month and then you’ll stay glued to your seat like before, that’s my prediction because Ifail to see what it adds aside from a few wow moments.

geez I guess it’s more than a few questions but what the hell...
This is just an opinion disguised as a "few questions".

Sorry "grandma", but I'm not taking the bait.

Yes I get that.

But currently there is no gameplay tied to that. And the few gameplays I see will become tedious really fast... you know like walking down a 150 meters corridor to fix something is fun the 5 first times...

And as I said, doing this Is a looooootttt of work. These are huge ships... and yeah I saw that fanmade viper thing... but anybody noticed it wasn’t polished or nice? It’s easy to do a rough, but then you have to polish it.

And again, what are we going to do walking around? What does it matter? After a year will you still walk in awe?

You know, maybe this ship interior thing is not for you. However, it is for me and most likely for a lot of other folk too. Not absolutely everything in the game has to be immediately tied to "pew pew pew gameplay". As I said in my earlier post, for a lot of people, things like ship interiors gives a personal touch. And yes, every damn time I went to my ship in SWTOR I giggled inside. It was MY ship. I knew the interior. I could walk about the interior. It NEVER got boring for me. One more thing....incorporating static interiors does not necessarily mean that the interiors will always remain static. With additional development new interactive features can be slowly added to each room of your ship. There is no law saying the developers can't put in basic interiors now and then add stuff to them later. We need people to be more open minded about this stuff.
