Should CGs now be advertised as "...and use of a carrier is recommended"?

No.
Seriously, nothing can beat a Cutter like this one. 768t cargo, 50ly jump range empty, 35 ly jump range full.

For shorter trips replace the Guardian FSD booster with another cargo rack. And make sure you dont play in open with that build :D
IF you see that you're about to lose an NPC interdiction just submit (throttle to 0) then boost away and wake as soon as the timer wears off.

So aim for that in case you dont have one already.
A carrier has it use, but it cant beat a Cutter.

Thanks for the tip 👍

A friend of mine came up with an idea of CG passenger missions because that's one type of "cargo" that carriers can't handle. It's one good way of equalizing things.

That friend btw has a carrier so the concern about CG balance is universal.

Inara shows the remaining CG to be at T2 but that's outdated info. It's supposed to be T3 now.

That's about what I expected. The 43k ls flight to the station will obviously put some people off but it won't take long to cap that one out when the carriers switch to it with the other one having finished.

With regard to carriers being essential by the way, I did six deliveries last night (three to each CG) in a T-9 with 748 cargo space * Could have squeezed some more in there if I'd taken my Guardian FSD booster off but I just couldn't be bothered. I was top 50% in both of them when I logged off and really, with the game's economy as it is these days the CG credit rewards aren't the motivator for me anyway.

* (NPC interditcion attempts: 5 Attempts evaded: 5. One of those was a supposedly Elite DBX lol, I mean how can a DBX possibly fail to interdict a T-9??)

...normally 10,000 to 15,000, if not 20,000 get involved....

It's been a very long time since a CG regularly got that many - the Golconda ones got 4000-7000 with a full week, and most of the trade CGs during the Interstellar Initiatives era got 2000-4000.

In terms of tonnage, the last full-length trade CGs delivered about 20 million tonnes in an entire week - whereas this is 20 million in two days. Sure, Fleet Carriers help haul more efficiently - but that's still an unexpectedly large boost, I think.

(Not surprising that they've started off with a low-stakes one to test things out!)

The last one I can remember getting those sort of numbers was the Morai one where they borked the reward tiers and top 10% paid out 330m. Even that one only got about 11,000, although that was partly because people were going mental to complete it when they spotted what had happened with the rewards :D

I like the Lakon ships - currently running the DBX, Keelback and by tomorrow a T7. Been considering what other big ship to get for PP and CGs. Been eyeing the T9 for quite a while since I do like cargo vessels and the SLF is a plus.

Guess my decision is made - top 50% isn't bad at all 👌 Thanks ! 😁

Stock, it's a dog to fly and its range lets it down. If you have engineering access sorted out the first advice I'd give you is to put the highest FSD range engineering you can manage on it and also the highest grade of dirty drives, not so much for speed but for the handling improvement in normal space. I have DD G5s on mine and it's a bit like putting a spoiler on a cement truck, but every little helps :D

43K ls to the station, system already jammed with FCs ... I may be an optimists but I think it take a bit longer than that. Profits aren't so good either so ...
You were saying? :D

Looks like people at Frontier forgot how to construct CGs.
30 million tonnes hauled in ~2.5 days, so that would have been about 85 million tonnes if it had lasted the full week (probably a bit more, with the weekend coming up)

I don't remember any time a set of trade CGs ever got that sort of rate - 50 million tonnes in a week used to be just about possible if it was a really popular CG, perhaps.

Sure, they could have assumed that Fleet Carriers would have made it really quick and set the targets at 20 million tonnes per tier ... which would have completed most pre-carrier trade CGs ... but that would have equally risked it never getting past Tier 1.

Yeah, I think it makes sense to ease into it. The alternative would have been a potentially incompletable CG which would only tick folks off. It's much too early to be whinging about the devs not doing everything everyone wanted them to do. I quite enjoyed myself, in fact, and don't mind at all that I have time to do other things now while awaiting another CG.

Edited a word because apparently the other one, though mild in my area, is considered less than family friendly. My mistake.

It's better when it completes earlier than not at all. Especially in a case like this were the results are tangible.

Last years Reorte GC completed 30 millions tons in 4-5 days iirc
