Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So CIG will never be able to deliver SQ42 ?
That's a meaningless question unless you can define precisely what Squadron 42 is. Could they hack together some cutscenes with a few Arena Commander missions? Probably. Will they deliver a AAA space opera with capital ships crewed by dynamic NPCs in massive interactive space battles, stable and consistent physics, polished and sophisticated animation, and fluid and immersive game mechanics? No. Never.

Having said that CIG set out to do SC without a single member of their leadership team having experience in MMOs. Allegedly the most difficult game type to do.
At the end of the day...The PU is just a modded and updated Freelancer and Sqn 42 is still Wing Commander 6...or whatever (Minus the furry cat-people..although the Vanduul look like a defurred version of the same thing). Chris Roberts, the absolute visionary that he is thinks he is, has been trying to make the same 2 games for over 30 years with other peoples money :D

I just noticed from the video...the main protagonist is the one and only Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). No doubt an early acting debut for him before Game of Thrones. I'll never forgive him for killing the Dragon lady

Dont take what those two idiots did to GoT the TV series to be canon. Wait for the books and see what really happens.

Looking forward to CR answering the top question about Dynamic Economy today. Surely he won't miss this deadline - - he only set it for himself 3 days ago 🤔

I have no doubt that they will deliver a form of MVP at some point over the next year or two. That's assuming CR doesn't decide to refactor everything because he's seen a feature in another game he wants his hard pressed devs to bolt onto the Franken-engine they're quite obviously struggling with....If you're expecting a beta of Sqn 42 this year though, it's highly unlikely.

Ci¬G have some very talented devs, unfortunately, they are being misled by a complete idiot blinded by his own hubris and whose sole contribution to the computer gaming industry is to plagiarise other peoples designs and ideas then claim them as his own.
But isn't the SQ42 beta expected by the end of this month?

Seriously, everything about SC & SQ42 is rather depressing. I came to this forum looking to see both positive and negative views of the development, something that is sadly missing from Spectrum. I knew things weren't going smoothly, but I never expected this sh*tshow.

Come on @LittleAnt, give me at least one good reason to pledge. 🤓

That a lot of backers have real fun in the alpha ?

More simple, you just have to test the alpha now, there is a freefly event. If you like it, don't pledge more than the starter pack (45$), it gives you access to the alpha.
You need to follow some tutorials on the web for your first hour, there is no "new player experience" atm.
A lot of good info for newcomers here.
The alpha need 16Go ram and SSD is mandatory to run it.

So basically you want me to buy, sorry pledge, $45 for what appears to be a buggy mess that's exceptionally poorly managed in order to find out if it's worth spending $45 on? An ever expanding list of deliverables with no time frames and seemingly no feasability studies! I would have been out on my ear if I'd run a project like that.

I'll wait till (if?) SQ42 is released.

Sorry, I m a bit grumpy today. Just got back from a holiday that I didn't want to end.

I've read all the books (so far) as well....read them long before the TV series ever aired. I certainly was in no way disappointed with the TV series...far from it :)

I have lots of fun in ED, but to listen to many, ED is a boring space trucking simulator devoid of fun.

Its not really a subjective pointer as to why someone should spend money on something.

The best way is to ask questions along the lines of:

Do you like spaceship games?
Do you like lots of attention to detail?
etc...

And build from there, while of course, also pointing out the limitations and bugginess of the current state of the game.

Then you let others decide for themselves whether they think its worth paying for.

I always appreciate those on reddit who, in response to questions about whether someone should get the game, take the effort to tell people about the alpha state, the bugginess, etc, while at the same time saying what they like about the game. Those people i'll upvote.

When people start banging on about how its already got more content than any AAA game out there (as they learned at Uncle Chrissy's knee), that's when i take umbrage.

I enjoyed the series a lot, and was even on board for some of the shortcuts they took. But how they rushed the final season, just so they could go direct Star Wars (which if i understand correctly, they got dumped from) was something that annoyed me a lot.

I think, had they remained fully invested, the ending would have been different and a lot more build up. Without inserting more spoilers for those who apparently are years behind, while I have no objection to how the situation with the white walkers was resolved, the pace at which it happened after seasons of much slower paced story and backstory, was just stupid. In short, it was just rushed.

To be honest, i have no idea how they got away with it. I can only presume that HBO was on board with it or else something in their contracts meant DB and DB had HBO over a barrel. Maybe there were budget issues that HBO couldn't resolve and therefore were on board with wrapping it up.... costs were just too high and they were not recouping the losses? Its all i can think of.

Anyway, we know that they were working largely in the dark from the end of the published books, so most of what was done from around Season 5 was them working in the dark, and can be happily dismissed until we get the last 2 books.

I'll just leave this here:
