You definitely want extended mode, you'll have to set the graphics display to whichever monitor the rift identifies as (on mine it seems to wander between secondary and tertiary) make sure you're using the latest runtime (0.4.3 definitely works for me) & try everything that Adam's suggesting.

You need to run it in Extended, forget direct for the moment.
This happens to me sometimes and I can't select the option for Oculus rift.
Try these and see if any fix it.
Restart the service.
Turn the DK2 off and on again.
Change it to direct, check the desk demo works OK, switch back to extended and try.
Start the game with the rift off and play it on your normal monitor for a minute. Exit the game, turn the rift back on, put in in direct, check the desk demo, put it in extended, try the game. If it appears on your monitor make sure you change the display it's using. If you still can't select Oculus Rift options leave it so that's got the DK2 selected and restart the game.
Restart your PC.
Normally doing one or a combination of these fixes it.

I had similar trouble getting ED to display on the rift first time in extended mode. Was getting a bit frustrated and someone commented on another forum playing it on a normal monitor before retrying on the DK2 and 'bang' it just worked for me. Was very odd but been solid since. Unfortunately it could have been a combination of things and I got lucky.

Now I have FPS working in game I'm starting to tune my PC and ED.

My rig currently is :
CPU = Intel i7 920 3.52Ghz
GPU = Nvidia GeForce GTX 770
O/S : Windows 7 Ultimate

To get a solid 75 FPS, sat in the hanger on ED :
Graphics quality preset = Low
Oculus image quality = Medium (middle of the slider)

I will overclock the GPU next and was just wandering if from your experience the best target is :
A) improving Graphics quality preset > medium or
B) improving Oculus image quality > Full (ie right of slider)?

Well I got my rk2 today, plugged it all in and the Orange light comes on, then goes out and my windows desktop flashes off and back on. Then there is no orange light. It comes on orange for a flash if I press the rifts on button, but then goes off immediately. I've been over the plugs several times and tried several different USB ports, all with the same result. There must be power if I am getting a brief orange flash though. Any ideas?

Hi Mike,
Just to give you a quick second opinion, but that 'could' be a power supply unit problem i.e. tries to start the DK2 but maxes / cuts out.

What size PSU does your PC have?
Are you running SLI graphics cards?

If possible maybe test it on a friends PC to narrow it down?

PS the only other thought is removing the small front cover of the DK2 and checking the USB cable into it hasn't come lose in shipping?

I've a 650w Corsair modular, i5 4670, single gtx 770. The troubleshooter tells me the device is old and only works on usb2, but I've tried USB 2's and 3's to no avail. I've got usb devices; Sennheiser headset, x52pro, trackerIr5, mouse and keyboard. Tried unplugging some but still no joy.

Have you tried updating your bios?
