Anyone think had CR only gotten a few million and been forced to stick with the original plan by strong investors, it could have turned out differently? Even if longer than 2 years to first release? Or if you knew history, that he had matured enough and learned enough to do things differently than at origins and digital anvil?
The GDC demo was pretty good. But even the strong investor scenario is questionable to me, given we can clearly see how things went once money started flowing. Also knowing the kickstarter demo was built by Crytek for their sales pitch and not by CR team as claimed, that CR relationship to SG was kept secret, and CryEngine map sizes seemed totally insufficient to me, even with streaming. Had my strong doubt hat on from the start.
No!
simple as that. Star Citizens success never was a question of funding. We only discovered in hindsight that the man making all those promises and racking in other peoples money had no
badword idea what he was doing from the start.
Would Chris Roberts ve only gotten 5 or 6 million total and were forced to do it with that the project would be dead since 2014 and more then 300 million dollar would ve gone into more worthwhile and promising venues. Star Citizen is a sad and brutal story of "throwing good money after bad". If we dont assume a scam from the very start as some here propose...just a case of incompetence and narcisstic tendencies then we can say that Chris Robert gave it
his best shot and Star Citizen 2020 is the result of that. Less funding wouldnt ve produced "more" or "better" results. You see Chris go-to move today...he is blaming others for his failing never himself. He would ve done the same back then and simply walked away. Star Citizen already received insane amounts of time and funding....what good did that do? And what good will more time and more funding do when the core is rotten and riddled with incompetence?
The correct question should be "would Elite Dangerous (or NMS or any of the other promising space games) be a kind of Star Citizen today if it received this level of funding instead?". A studio with a competent crew, a competent leader and somebody at the top who has the integrity to accept his limits? There are actually a lot of possible candidates who could ve made something out of this opportunity. If it would ve been Frontier and David Braben can be argued but we
know CIG and Chris Roberts isnt it and if they dont deliver Star Citizen in all its glorious promise (to my surprise and that of the world I m sure) then they
never had a chance to begin with.
Somebody else mentioned this already. Caulders and the other investors are not video game lovers or space lovers. They have never bothered with these things before in a public manner. They do this for monetary reasons and hoping for a successful SQ42 release might not be their primary concern in all this. We dont know the details of their contract, dont know the kind of leverage they have over CIG and we most definitely dont know what their game plan is in this. If they have some kind of controlling power and a SQ42release is somehow important to them then we can say that their and backer interest overlap for the moment but that doesnt mean
they are on our side in all this.
But its about time that people understand and accept the reality of the situation. Star Citizen utilizes the wrong engine, it doesnt have the coding foundation to allow for the things the game is supposed to be to come true. It struggles without even reaching alpha development level and listening to the devs makes me think that the people in charge dont know what they are doing nor do they understand the issues at hand themselves. All this fantasizing about "revolutionary break-throughs" or other nonsense that is to be expected in time....all born out of the inability to acknowledge the reality of the situation. You could call SC just "Paradise" instead and be on the same level...blind devotion, trust and limitless hope combined with some personal sacrifice (money) and misery (testing). All the shilling and denying doesnt change the facts and the facts we do have look ugly.
The biggest surprise to me is that Star Citizen went such a long way all based on some visual fliff-fluff, hollow and empty and barebones and a whole lot of lies and deception. HOW have people not realized whats happening earlier? How in the time of the internet and humanities collected knowledge at ones fingertips can be so many be so confused and blind?
I am probably the stupid one for thinking that this would certainly be impossible in todays time and age right? Just not sure the jokes on
me for thinking "people cant be so stupid, so dumb and so narrow-minded" to allow such a thing anymore. But the world is actually full of far more extreme examples. So I shouldnt be surprised.
But yes I suppose my statement is a little rash when we dont have a
definite answer to all this yet. Well...I m committing to my opinion and if SC against my personal belief releases a worthy space game then I m ready to eat my hat or my words. The internet is forever and all my walls of text explaining WHY STAR CITIZEN ISNT GOING TO BE MADE will stand there for everybody to see....how utterly wrong I got it for all this time. And apart from the short-living shaming and laughs I m sure all our lives will continue without further impact. Thats how unimportant Star Citizen is in todays life
So I dont get why anybody would feel threatend or attacked by what I write ^^
Peace
