Newcomer / Intro Hey, here I am, can you see me? Mining for hours to provide for my FC?

Real explorers are smart enough to dump their UC data when they can at the nearest possible port - which in the black is usually a carrier.
I don't think real explorers leave the bubble with the intent on finding another ship let alone one where they can dump their data for a 25% loss.
Explorers have been doing just fine long before the Fc's showed up; and I truly do not see a trend where they need the crutch of an FC. NOT when they can jump 500 light years in the same about of time in takes the FCs. Explorers who piggy back on an FC are lazy for the mere convenience.
My guess is around 99% of explorers have no need or intention of using the services of a FC. Those that do rely on the work and efforts of one Cmdr while they sleep, watch Oprah, drink tea and read the paper, listen to music.
Fc's re pointless to anyone except those wanting to mine in the black.

Maybe you should not look at these then.

It would take me at least a month to farm 57 types of mats to G5 a krait mk2 plus the hundred of jumps to do it, then the jumps to all the engineers; and you're not satisfied with the time and effort it takes to farm fuel or stuff to buy fuel for the gas guzzler?
Money in ED is the easy part, everything else is work. There's no easy routes for anything.
Wrong. Takes couple hours. Find war + boom system and get high signals. In 1 evening you will have mats for 1ship at least. Repeat similar for other 2 mats types.
As for me I just constnat full of all mats just playing other things like explore without special effort.

The smart ones go waaay out and park em as stepping stones for real explorers, even then what are they good for? A real explorer doesn't need to access em. So what then, big fat expensive mining barges? On a long enough time even they have to go back to the bubble.
It's a personal cargo hold for now. All other roles failed actually.
Sure, it's convenient, then having carrier I can do weekly arx cap in 2 hours anywhere instead jumping for 3 days. But, that is rather opposite effect then expected. Having carriers I play less now :D like 10 times less or more.

Horse feathers!
Try starting from scratch and see how long it takes 2 grind this mats for this setup. Start off with gathering encoded mats, You're going to need a quite a few rare ones and rare ores too.
Better get busy, the clock is running.

Why is that ? >: I kept data to make allied with many fractions in bubble at once and unlock permits.

Because accidents happen, it's always a risk to hold on to the data for too long. Some do and some don't but to say that DSSA carriers don't serve a purpose in the black is a false conception. They provide a choice for explorers - repair or not, dump data or not, restock or not which is infinitely better than having no choice at all.

Specially when you need it.

It's only 12.5% loss if you own the carrier.

After I returned from a long break from ED, I found myself a long way from Colonia and a much longer way from the Bubble. The nearest safe harbor was the DSSA Buurian Anchorage.

So i could risk a long trip to hold on to all the data profits or pay 25% to sell all that data right away and avoid a possible 100% loss.

It was a no-brainer for me and a way to support that particular DSSA carrier ( which has the same carrier upkeep costs). And more importantly, I had a choice.

Don't fly for long on weak ship. Mine MAY fail only with 100% lost cockpit. Accidents already happened to me on small trips and all are accounted in build (i have guardian shield booster even).
Also don't fly open.
So yeh, this reason only for people who wana fly everywhere on sidewinder.

That's perfectly fine - it's the way you see it, it's your choice.

I have mine ⚖️

What's 100% of a billion if you get ganked while flying in to the bubble to turn in your data?
There's the point, explorers only come back with data. The only way you'll get ganked is to play open. Most explorers who play open do so in the black. On the way to the bubble, they go solo. There is an extremely low risk of losing all the data.

I'm not an explorer. Leastways not a hard-core one. Recent triple elite I decided I'll go map some hotspots.
That was almost 2 mths ago. 40000 ly later via Colonia sag A I'm omw back to the bubble.
I sent my carrier remotely till it ran out of fuel to rendezvous with my conda out in the black. The carrier has 16000 tons of tritium on it. That's enough for me to get on with.
Way l see it once I do get to the sodding thing I'll continue exploring/mapping...cos l love it!
The carrier will allow me to swap to various ships to suit whatever I'm doing out there...mining or whatever. Also I'll jump with the carrier then explore the surrounding areas an jump again..so on..mining as l go to "pay" for each 100ly hop.
Point is you don't just spam jump a carrier..that's a disaster waiting to happen.
Think...!!@

Its a no brainer for me too, I dont expect to die 1 in 4 times or more returning to the bubble so I keep my data. If I die 1 in 5 times I lose 20%....and I dont expect to die 1 in 5 times either.

It is a choice. I hate them in the black polluting the special sites and systems. fdev left them isolated, players just have to be there. I wont use one and I certainly wont give another player 25% for nothing but pollution and immersion breaking activity. Not for me, no thanks.

You don't need "whatever" there, except to mine to support carrier itself. Or some role play, like look that nice star, let me mine a rock there :D For that reason I have grade 1 mining laser on mine Conda, can mine mats in nice systems.
Because whole game play needs NPCes and those are absent out there.
P.S. Once that rush with carriers & tritium started, I don't even land planets any more. Because I have all 9 ships G5 and full of all mats, because ...mining tritium did that >:

Only 12.5% goes to the carrier owner, the other 12.5% goes to the NPC company behind UC cartographics. That's why even carrier owners have to pay the 12.5% markup.

I'm going to be taking a break from this game myself, it's just not feasible to mine Tritium as a means of long distance travel in the current state of the game. Even if you find a double hotspot it's <100t/hr laser mining. Mining takes more time than jumping, if you math it all up where do we get time to even explore? Spend and hour jumping for every three hours mining and suddenly you've gone 2000 ly!

If you don't like mining tritium, then don't. I have two Carriers now, and I have never mined any tritium. You can buy it.
