Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So, CIG haven't commented the passing of their own deadline?

MOST TRANSPARENT COMPANY EVER!

They're too busy playing Star Wars and making a list of all the "refactoring" they now need to do to Squadron 42.

And no, I know SW doesn't step on all of S42's toes, but it seems to (from what I've played so far) be pretty good at what it sets out to achieve, unlike anything CIG has produced. And what it achieves is basically exactly what Wing Commander did back in the day, only with a quarter of a century of technology and game play advancements. That's the basic concept which led to a lot of us being here, after we backed Roberts in 2012 to make a spiritual successor to his earlier games. At least someone delivered.

Also, SW is awesome in VR.

(But yes, the HOTAS support is complete bobbins)

Uuuuhhhhg. Finally caught up. This thread is moving really fast... I've got a couple of comments over the last 70 pages:

Hud modes are fine for me. All the aircraft I've flown that have radar, glass panel displays or MFD's have various levels of overlays or modes that make ED look like a preschool toy. I'll take it.

I'm having fun with Squadrons outside of my throttle not being detected. X-wings are still my favorite starfighter after all these years evidently.

I work in development since 30 years (98% web) and make some little games for my pleasure (my first lines of code with C64 but really started to code with AmosBasic).
I started out with assembler about 40 years ago, but ended up coding websites and oracle databases. This has given me absolutely no understanding of game development. As far as I'm concerned it's all magic. So I can't see how your 98% web has given you insight into game design and development.

I switched to playing Squadrons with an Xbox controller...as it was presumably designed. Binned the HOTAS due to the hard coded 50% deadzones that EA have inserted into the control setup..it's awful.

Ooooh, talk machine code to me baby!

JMP
XOR
JNE
BNE

I love it!

Of course, when i started, we didn't even have that level of abstraction, our code looked like this:

4F 23 0A etc

And we input that in via a keypad, and if you discovered later you needed to insert a command, you had to go back and overwrite everything.

Bah, developers today, they don't know how good they have it! We used to have to push our stacks uphill, in the snow, just to get a FILO result! And we were greatful for it!

Aye, them were the days, when our computers were powered by coal. Actually, I suppose they still are to a certain extent.

I cant help but think that in that vid Reddit convo that AA was trying to see how few words they could write to get a full page response. Started with a reasonable paragraph and by the end of it was down to one sentence. Interested to see if in future they can get a full page response for fewer and fewer word, down to three words 'So you say', or two words, 'Not really' or even just one word. Just by replying 'Really?'

It's just him ranting about how the sc_refunds subreddit is now run by Elite Dangerous fanboys, and a whole lot of screenshots/info about certain posters there. He's also talking about how sc_refunders are "subhuman" and how "he's going to f*** them up, real bad." Most of the actual content of his latest video is just memes from other YouTubers.

He mentions throughout and at the end that he has some legal ramifications coming against the sc_refunds subreddit and certain people there for libel and defamation, which will cause its closure.

CTT, again, comes off as extremely unhinged. I would recommend not having any interactions with him, even in good faith.

I wouldn't want to be around or anywhere near these guys when CIG unravels. When fanatics snap the collateral damage can be pretty ugly to say the least.

I've read that they are going to rush out a patch for this, not sure why they would release it untested.

I have an X56 so I'll be holding off till its sorted.

Dead zone sliders were like the only HOTAS options I found. But yeah, dump it, it’s not worth the faff. Game is fine with controller. (No 6dof or anything to be crammed into the controls etc, like you said. S’all good. Once you mess with the presets ;))
