Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

If you go with the alternate meaning, I think it's more likely he's compensating for something. He drives a Porsche, right? Just saying...
I mean, I don't even have a car, which totally isn't sad and pathetic. Even worse, I actually used to zoom past CIG's LA office on a w*nky e-scooter on my way too and from work, before the world went to hell.
Unlike other fast cars, a Porsche is actually pretty reliant and not that expensive in day to day use. You can still find parts easy for even the older models at Porsche themselves. Now of course the turbo models and the rs models are a bit more expensive, brakes and ..., but yea, as a sportscar, for whatever your budget is, they are a pretty reasonable buy.

CIG deleted the ability to buy UEC off the store.

Ooooh.....

And damn, i'm a loss how to put a negative spin on this one! A good move for once!

Damn... someone throw me a bone here!

the bloody Vikings chopped down all the trees on this island to make boats...there's not even any peat.
wasn#t that the english landlords to make space for sheep (and get rid of the farmers?)... at least that#s what i learned last time i visited the orkneys.

14.7 FPS and 1.1 Mbps downstream!!!! Hells bells, what the hell are they putting over the network????

Can't wait for someone to explain its all because they aren't running it off a SSD.
I'm waiting for a year from now when the standard excuse will be "It's optimised for installing to the RTX 3090's virtual memory, you're playing it wrong by not doing that"

It’s just part of the store revamp?

Hey everyone!

Tomorrow, (Tuesday October 6th) at 12:00 UTC (8:00am EDT/ 5:00am PDT) we’ll be bringing down the RSI Pledge store while we deploy the newly updated RSI Cart.

Downtime should not take longer than a few hours, but you can stay up to date with our progress on the status page: https://status.robertsspaceindustries.com/

What’s so fancy about the new cart?

I’m so glad you asked! We’ve done a complete front-end redesign of the cart and checkout flow with updates to the most recent APIs for our payment processors. This allows us to benefit from new features and security measures, improve the experience on mobile, and just generally create a smoother overall experience.

And credit sales will return shortly, in some comparable form?

But possibly in bigger denominations? ;)

How’s that? 😄

This island never had any trees to begin with, hence it's name...but Scotland didn't get Orkney from Norway until the 15th century...and whilst the clearances were certainly how mainland Scotland infamously gained it's bleak treeless and desolate landscape devoid of people and settlements...it's not true of Orkney as a whole. Orkney's lords were for the most part Norwegian...the same with the outer islands having one prominent family, always of Norwegian Viking stock...a kind of feudal chieftain not unlike the clan system in Scotland...but Orcadians aren't of Scots descent...trust me, I'm almost an ethnic minority up here :D

The English were never too interested in Orkney until they turned Scapa Flow into an anchorage for the Royal Navy grand fleet prior to WW1...then in the 1970's when they started pumping North sea oil and gas into Flotta. There weren't enough people here to replace with sheep in the first place plus the cost of transporting livestock over some of the roughest coastal waters anywhere led to Orkney being largely untouched by the Highland clearances.

People moved off the islands of course as is still the case. Young people born as islanders rarely stay once they leave school heading off to the mainland or abroad...the islands (not just Orkney) have been dying for many generations with only a trickle of incomers with young families to keep the population going and keeping the schools open...Island life is great when you're young or have a young family...it's also great to retire to. Once the kids grow up and leave school...families move away leaving an aging population and more empty farms and crofts than occupied ones.

The inner and outer Hebrides were decimated by the clearances of course...still a sore point over there in the last bastion of the Gàidhealtachd :)

Depends, how much do you make now? Can you make more there? If you’re bored with your job or feel you can make more, give it a shot, just make sure you get what you want 👍

Thanks. :)
It wasn't a serious question really. It amused me to get that email having been posting on here today.

I am an animator but not the kind they're after. I do film & TV rather than games and these days I mainly do kids TV stuff - totally different ballgame.

😂😂 I used to do a lot of animation (and yes, I love and still use Lightwave😉), I had a chuckle every time when I said I’m an animator when someone asked what I did. Sometimes I think I should’ve just taken a red nose with me every day just to pull it out when they ask 😁

 I used Lightwave right up to the 2018 version. I still have it, but I use Blender more for 3D stuff now. Most of my work is 2D so 3D is relegated to hobby status for now. I don't think I'd be much use to Cloud Imperium ... unless they wanted to squeeze some CBeebies characters into Squadron 42.

Come to think of it I could probably sort them out with a cartoon version of that blooming penguin.

Please don't :D

Don’t listen to Mole, do it!!!! 😁

funny thing is, well for most of the people I know, a lot of us started in 3D and ended up working in 2D, be it being compositing or editing or even grading, but yea, as long as you love what you do, you do you. Hey f* it, I’m doing car photography as a hobby now (with lots of layers and different lightning in one shot of course😁) . Work is still a lot of editing and making sure other editors work is good but whatever, I’m rambling now, it’s the beer, to;dr yey lightwave!!!!! you don’t find a lot of lightwave users these days 😁
