This is a scary place to be! Yet nobody seemed to notice me (except NPCs, because they are PITA).

Right silent running. How many heatsinks did you go through in one battle?
I use up my missiles before I use up my 9 heatsinks. Now when pirating (which rarely requires the use of force), I can go through heatsinks quicker than I do hatch breakers, assuming I'm in a good hunting ground like old Borann.

the other day I realised just how trolltastic it would have been to strap an ECM to my DBS when Borann was still a thing, since there was a cracked core asteroid near the hotspot. Imagine how annoying it would be for a miner to have all their limpets detonate for no apparent reason when it's actually a stealthboat zipping out and pinging them.

I just want to salute you for the irony of flying in this CG for the Empire in pretty much the single best build in the game to exploit the reward you would have gotten for the other side.

ECMs blow up limpets? I had no idea!

Yep! They're useful for dealing with hatchbreakers - if one manages to get past your point defence and attach, an ECM ping will destroy it.

It'll also destroy all your own collectors, so be careful with it.
Over three years playing this game and I've never equipped an ECM. Are they infinitely rechargeable, or are they like SCBs with only a few "bangs" before requiring a reload?

I just claimed my reward for the Empire: Some 8 Million Credits plus change for Top 10% It's the first time in Elite that I actually feel like I've wasted my time with a CG. Okay, I've got my NPC pilot to rank up to Deadly and I've reached Master in Combat myself, but that's all. If I am gracious I could pretend that the looted engineering materials from the CG povided the mats for my new exploration Clipper.

There was really no incentive (for me) playing for the losing side, except for RP reasons and a little bit of "rebelling against the mainstream" (to not goose-step blindly with the masses). I'm not really a fan of the modern "everyone gets a participation trophy" and "the endscore of the game is: everyone had fun" mindsets, but some sort of useful or at least "neat" base reward for participating even on the losing side of a CG would be nice (and probably help a bit with countering the massive snowballing effect that winning-team-joiners have on a CG).

So you want a game with real consequences, as long as you always win something and those consequences dont apply to you?

Not a fan of 'everyone gets a participation trophy..but some sort of useful or at least 'neat' base reward...' ???? errr thats a Participation Trophy right there.

Just wait til the next one when its Alliance or Fed only, when its 2-1 against any one side.

Nope. Frontier just show us, that anarchists victory is only way to not cut off storyline after 1 CG (or they want rebels win, after smashing previous rebells with massive snowballs), simple. They just manipulate players. Reward for only 1 side has reason.
although...with good storywritters victory of 1 side shouldn't cut off whole story after 1 CG.

Apparently you need to work on your reading comprehension. I did not write anything about "lasting consequences", let alone that I'd wish they weren't to apply to me. I didn't even touch the topic of consequences at all.

The point of "participation trophys" you fail to understand in this context: Credits are meaningless in Elite right now. Even running a single mission yields more Credits than the "participation reward" for the CG (ignoring the payout of Combat Bonds and Engineering Mats here for a second). An alternative could be, for example, a unique participation decal for each side that you can sport on your ships regardless of victory or defeat. Heck, maybe even yet another ingame currency ("CG tokens") you can accumulate and later spend in a "CG shop" for decals, modules or whatever. Both, decal or "CG Token" payout, could be tied to reaching a certain Tier, so even the "losing" side has something to fight for, even when winning the CG is already way out of reach.

In this CG there was no point in fighting for the obviously losing side, since you were only getting a few Credits out of it. If this concept is continued with the next competitive CGs, you better wait one day or so, see which side is in the lead and then jump in with all the other winning-team-joiners and snowball your way to certain victory.

I will repeat, why only 1 side has any reward.

Maybe the next CG will be "The Empire strikes back!" 😁

I don't feel this way, because I had lots of fun and didn't take the CG too seriously. My one regret is when I took my Mamba in instead of my [redacted] and then bought a 8 million credit rebuy (a clever CMDR took out my FSD before I could high wake out), which pretty much nullified any profit I made during the CG. But I learned a lesson - save the Mamba for PvE and stick to unconventional builds for PvP.
