If someone wanted Imperial ships in Colonia:

There is no reasonable system in Colonia that would offer more than the iEagle. Kojeara is the only unlocked system that has the potential, but there is the mat trader so it's a no-go. Carcosa might if one of the outposts would be upgraded and receive a shipyard plus The Nameless take control of the system again. The hull reinforcements for the Clipper are available there:rolleyes:.

Although reading in another of your posts how devoted an Empire supporter you are, the prospect of flipping a system to Anarchy to gain Imperial ships in the Nebula may not be precisely what you wish...
Well, it may involve some roleplaying. Basically make an Imperial colony in Colonia, and if things in the Bubble spiral out of control, it can basically be the Eastern Roman Empire ;)

So, this would be technically very tricky.

To get Imperial ships at a station, you need one of:
  • The station having universal outfitting (like Jameson Memorial). There are three such stations in the entire game, and no sign that Frontier will add more.
  • An Imperial minor faction controlling the station. There aren't any nearer than Quince and the gaps are way too large to expand across. Not possible.
  • Certain Imperial Powers add Imperial ships to the shipyards. However, Colonia's distance means it would take more than ten times the total CC that exists in the entire bubble to expand this far. 480,000 CC is not going to happen even if all 11 powers cooperate. [1]
  • As Screemonster has said, an Anarchy faction controlling the station may give Imperial ships, or it may not. It depends on complexities of the outfitting BGS which are extremely poorly understood.

Most shipyards in Colonia are very low-end. They might give the Imperial Eagle, but nothing bigger. Of the larger shipyards:
  • Robardin Rock, Carcosa: tested, gives Federal and Alliance ships instead
  • Colonia Dream, Ratraii: BGS locked, impossible to put an Anarchy faction in charge of
  • Jaques Station / Colonia Hub, Colonia: BGS locked, impossible to put an Anarchy faction in charge of
  • TolaGarf's Junkyard, Kojeara: not tried, weakest of the five in terms of outfitting. System does not contain an Anarchy faction. Might work.

So you'd need to:
  • Place the native Anarchy faction in Metztli or Pennsylvania into control, against the strongly-supported current system owner
  • Consolidate the system enough to get an expansion, maybe more than one, to get into Kojeara (probably involves winning an invasion war)
  • Defeat the controlling faction of Kojeara to take the Junkyard.
  • See if that gives Imperial ships (if it does, it'll be the Eagle, possibly the Courier and maybe the Clipper - definitely no chance of the Cutter)

As Paul Smith says, the Junkyard also has Colonia's only raw material trader, which would be shut down by putting an Anarchy faction in charge. This would give everyone in the region a very strong incentive to stop you doing this, and to retake the station if you did somehow capture it - even excluding the current trend in Colonia against Anarchy factions more generally.

[1] Rohini would be about 58,000 CC and is technically a joint venture between Colonia and the Empire. That one might be theoretically possible, if all eleven Powers cooperated

The other alternative here would be for FD to manually create a new Imperial faction and insert it into Colonia.

Given that Colonia was largely founded by the "get away from the superpowers and their politicking" crowd and has been purely Indie-aligned up till now, I suspect this option would not go down well with the locals. But I suppose it would depend on how desperate the locals are for Imp ships.

The other option would be to place an Imperial outpost somewhere near to Colonia, but not near enough that the Imps could infect the rest of Colonia by expansion. Maybe the Imps could build a research base at the Glowing Green Giant in Eol Prou KW-L c8-32, or something like that.

or... if you could buy imperial ships from fleet carriers. I haven't looked into what's available to buy from FC's at the moment but I suspect imperial ships aren't currently on there.

Maybe with the caveat you need the rank to unlock access to selling the ship. Another reason for having rank.

The only superpower ship you can buy from fleet carriers is the T-10. All the others you can't. An imperial faction or any superpower faction in or close to Colonia will not go well with the locals. Probably everybody, and I mean everybody, would band together to remove them.

Sure, I figured that was the case at the moment although I didn't know for sure as I haven't looked into it. That's why we're suggesting it be possible for someone with the required ranking to be able to sell Imperial ships. Of course, if that becomes a thing it should also be possible to do the same with Federal ships provided you have the required rank.

There is probably a lore and/or technical reason for why carriers can sell the superpower ships. Should it be possible to sell them from carriers? From a convenient viewpoint: hell yes, form a lore viewpoint: then hell freezes over.
Also to remember is that the Corvette is only sold by the Feds and the 2 I-got-all-the-ship shipyards, not Anarchy like the rest of the Fed fleet. Don't know if it's the same for the Cutter.

I made the clipper available in a LYR system by flipping it to anarchy, you guys in colonia managed it with the ieagle. I've not done it with the courier yet but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to if you found the right shipyard.

The alliance mediums are an odd one, so far the only station I've ever seen make them available due to flipping to anarchy is Robardin Rock.

So, why does flipping a system to anarchy cause the station to sell Imperial ships? Just wondering what the reasoning behind it is. Is it the same logic for Federal ships?

It can cause them to sell federal and alliance ships as well. The same system where I made the clipper available also unlocked the T10 when it became anarchy.

As for reasoning, well. Honest Dave's Shipyard might not be completely scrupulous where those "totally clean and legitimately sourced" ships come from. Where did you think a hot ship went when you sell it "via interstellar factors"? :p

It would be a nice touch if they were also cheaper, had permanently scratched paintwork, and ran a bit rougher...
