Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The salt continues on Spectrum

Yes, you did wait 6 months for that. It allowed CIG to keep selling more ships before having to give any bad news! Rejoice Citizens! And buy more ships and Fortnite helmets! Also locked

Colour me surprised

Shouldn't really remind people of stuff they have memory holed. Especially when CR has recently said he doesn't give deadlines. It will be done when its done.

Most open development ever!

and

Who knows? Certainly not CIG!

Someone trying to say the videos were good, but replies don't always concur.

"Even if they never got anything for it, it was cheap at that price. Without malice aforethought, I had given them the best show that was ever staged in the PC gaming world since Wing Commander! It was easily worth four hundred million bucks to watch me put the thing over." 😋

Someone earlier was wondering what Crytek had in their sleeve regarding CIG... Easy guess: SQ42 is still nowhere near to existence. Even in grey boxing form.
That is what I think too. They probably looked at the state of SQ42 and said to them self oh boy another 5 years dev time until it could be complete. Let take as much money as possible for a settlement before this whole thing blow up.

What I have found interesting in the responses to the latest batch of information from Chris Roberts and CIG, is the utter derision the overwhelming majority have for this game and the company involved.

Can you ever get back from that?

A very interesting interview. To say similarities exist would be an understatement. Its is a wall of text but a very good interview / interviewer. It is genuinely lol at times.

If cba to read it all, skip to the Kickstarter bits and the Pledges and various reward levels, when the interviewer asks about refunds, its brilliant.

That was 5 years ago. At this point I respect PM more than Roberts simply because Molyneux actually did come up with interesting mechanics for games like Populous, Syndicate, Theme Park, Dungeon Master and also had a record of releasing stuff in a finished state even if not to meet expectations. Much of his hype problems came about due to not understanding how preconceptions are built up during the early years of the internet. He didn't do it on the publics dime.

Chris Roberts came up with branching story lines for Wing Commander that were interesting. The actual combat was his attempt to make Elite without vector graphics and better people then him had to finish it (Origin had to demote him to creative director and bring in someone else to finish it). I'm not aware of much else you can say he actually did other than have his name shoved on for marketing, strike commander is largely the same sort of thing. He likeddirecting FMV for WC3/WC4 and he came up with some of the concept work for Freelancer and got booted off agian. Also he has taken everything Molyneux did and exploited it for money straight from the paying customer.

Mr. Nowak tried to go that route, and where is he now?
Good time for one of his posts: (December 2018)
2018 was a great year for me and for many people who backed this project... As usual instead of being more closed CIG decided to be even more transparent and revealed the last two things that were not public. The Squadron 42 production roadmap and their financials. At this point CIG is the most open AAA studio in the game development industry...

My expectations for 2019 is the full delivery of Arccorp and MicroTech and all of its cities, outposts and moons. The repair, salvage and refuel mechanics. The addition of the second solar system. Possibly Nyx.

And Christopher really did all that and much more! All 100 promised systems, full of moons and planets rendered to the last stone and flower, are already there. Now, if someone tells you that there is no such thing as secret build - well he is damn right, as those things are not secret, there already there in PU!
The only reason no player can get there is, according to LittleAnt, minor hiccup on server meshing.

I could see CR saying many things like that.

PM really had an alternative view of some things.

Disgraceful, simply disgraceful

This cannot end any other way now but in disaster. Not for Crobber and nepotites of course (they'll have limited time to get well hidden somewhere nice and warm in the world) but for the ground level developers, writers, and not to mention the supporter schmucks that still buy into this thing.

I can totally see Crobber and assorted nepotites selling this all off as a going concern to a large development house and walking away laughing. It gets boxed up into something vaguely resembling "the dream" and everyone will breath a sigh of relief that supported it and defend all of crobbers decisions as Godlike.

It's the only way this gets released in any sort of form that makes anyone happy.
