General Pokemon in game. Just listen for a moment.

Okay listen. I know this is crazy, doesn't seem feasible. But listen, even if you don't like Pokemon (because the general idea doesn't have to involve Pokemon).

First off, Niantic has proven with Pokemon GO that The Pokemon Company is open to collaborations. So, as long as they are profiting from the dlc that adds this, I don't see why they wouldn't be open to the idea.

So what is the idea? Imagine being able to turn to your right-hand interface during the longer flights and tab to Pokemon Yellow. It is a tiny game, so it shouldn't create any issues performance-wise.

The reason I choose Pokemon specifically is that the gameplay has such longevity. But it doesn't necessarily have to be Pokemon. This could even be as simple as the little games you get in GTA Online's arcades. Whatever it is, it would be nice for it to have longevity in spite of its size: for example, something like Cookie Clicker.

Why bother with this when you could just alt tab to that stuff? Don't give me that . You know why. Because it would be awesome, that's why. And from Frontier's point of view, this general idea - adding paid dlc that merely adds some more entertainment to your ship - would be a additional source of income.

I will say I understand this isn't exactly a priority and would probably be a technical challenge. Don't attack the idea just because you want other things to be added or fixed first. I just think this or something like this would be great some day.

Huh? Are you aware this is in the Elite Dangerous forum?

Yes. Are you struggling with the concept? They will play video games in the future too. There will, I assure you, be people who enjoy playing retro games while cruising even in this sci fi era.

Sorry, I have to agree with Varonica on this one

Blech, no.

I’ve got five kids and already see electric rats all over the house. Stick ‘em in my ship and I might injure myself clamouring for the uninstall button.

1. I was clear this wouldn't be some universal aspect of gameplay. There would be no one forcing you to have this - obviously it would be a paid dlc, but if for some reason it wasn't it would surely be optional.
2. You seem to be upset at Pokemon specifically. But perhaps you would like some other retro game available.

Yes, i object to Pokemon specifically. If you enjoy it, more power to you; you’re welcome to my share.

A simple little side-game on the 4-side monitor isn’t a bad idea by any means. Maybe minesweeper or tetris or something like that. I’m sure the VR crowd would love it.

You know, as an alternative you could just go for a dual monitor setup and have your Pokémon game (or whatever you want) running along side ED on the other monitor. If you run the game in borderless display mode (not full screen) this should be possible, assuming you're not using VR. I don't see why this would need to be incorporated into ED itself and I wouldn't want the developers working on this when they have so many other important things to work on instead.

You don't get the appeal of having it in-game, and for some reason you feel the need to let us know that. That's fine.

Yes it isn't a priority. In fact I said that myself. In the first post.

You're right, I don't see the appeal. We will just have to agree to disagree on that point. Ultimately, we'll leave it with FD to decide what they want and don't want to see in their game.

I apologise for being snappy, I have just felt the need to defend the suggestion from the immediate dismissal it got.

The appeal is simply immersion. And for those using VR, it is not practical to tab out. But even without VR, I appreciate the immersion of playing a retro game in a sci fi simulation.

Hey, it's no problem and no need for an apology. Like Borko says, don't let our responses put you off coming up with other ideas.

Minigames are no crazy stuff on games (Well, Elite is full of minigames; Scanning systems, Subsurface missiles.... But I mean really minigames, like Fallout pip-boy's games.

Of course in the far future of the year 33xx, every game-card will fit in a Class 1 module.

A mini game in the cockpit as an idea does have some merit, we have all seen games within a game before, but the idea of FDev spending the kind of money that would be needed to license Pokemon is beyond ridiculous. Just how would you expect them to make the money back? Also Pokemon is a terrible fit for Elite.

FDev do have their own IP they could use for example Lostwinds but maybe a R-Type clone would be a better fit.

But the bottom line is that any of these would require design and development time that would be much better applied to improving the main game rather than adding a side feature that most people won't bother with.

a mini game would make a trip to hutton more bearable..
how long does the average cqc match last?
could be an idea that it's the mini game, pop in for a couple rounds on your way somewhere or waiting for missions to refresh

also @Kiama - it's so easy to read responses as angry rhetoric, it's human nature right? it's like our default setting
I find that when I read responses in threads I try to do it on the basis they are all smiling and slapping you on the back like mates would, it's all in good spirit

OP you should have suggested that we can access the original Elite from our cockpit, that idea would have likely got more traction from long time players.

Wouldn’t cost FD a thing, because they own it...

I think the general idea of in flight entertainment is a pretty good one, especially explorers. I used to like galnet audio for that...

But Pokemon? No...

If it's optional and doesn't cost me anything that others are able to buy themselves some silly game to play while they play Elite, then I don't mind, but...
As optional thing, it shouldn't have any connection to main game (and most likely wouldn't). You would just play your Pokemon or whatever instead of playing Elite, which would be a waste of effort on devs part, because people who want to play some other game do simply that.

As far as minigames go, it could be fun idea to add some game of dice or something like that to Odyssey. Players could play for money and it could work, just like it does in other games.
