Newcomer / Intro Failed Wing delivery mission pirate killed on last run....

So me and my friend took a wing mission today and after failing to deal with a hostile ship on the last run we lost a 4000+ delivery mission with 264 cargo left to deliver... I cant resupply when going back to the source system i took the mission in due to if the cargo was lost it was lost. I get that but why can't I buy the missing cargo with my own money and deliver?

I thought my only option was to abandon the mission. But flew back a few hours later to have a look at it and saw that I can complete the mission with a ''Partial complete'' button. So I did and it seems like I got the 7,5 Million as a reward at least. But what about my friend, he was offline, sleeping due to work tomorrow at the time, will he get the credits too? If not is there a way for me to donate credits to him?

We delivered stuff for 2 hours only to be shot down at literally at the finish line. The pirate was a tough one, I nearly had him twice and then he pulled to far out for my Type 7 to be able to follow. Then 5 seconds later it was over.
Seriously every night before someone is going off to sleep these things tend to happen.. It is a bit tiring and makes you almost stop playing completely. We both have limited playtime and we seriously cannot afford to lose stuff like this every single night. It feels that we barely make any progress while playing the game.

How about maybe not engaging in combat if you don't have to instead of risking all your work? Seriously, it isn't the game's fault if you make the wrong choices.

I don't agree with people that say "git gud" - but you could say "git smarter". ;)

Engaging oh no I just tried to use the escape option to get away. Is there another way? Im a beginner so Im afraid I don't follow. Can I stop my ship and pay him? Would he not grab my cargo anyways? Leaving me with a failed mission.

Sounds like you need to improve your ship's defences (shield and/or armour) a little bit so you can survive enemy fire while your FSD cools down and recharges for a jump. It's better not to fight the interdiction. Submit instead by setting the throttle to zero. After a submit the FSD will cool down quickly (15 secs instead of a minute or so). While the FSD cools down boost and manoeuvre at full speed to evade enemy fire. After cooldown start charging the FSD again (another 15 secs). Don't go to supercruise instead make a hyperspace jump to your next waypoint. If you are in the destination system already there is no alternative but to go to supercruise. The pirate will follow you to supercruise where you can try to evade him or repeat the submit-boost-jump sequence if he gets you again.

IIRC you have to be in the wing when the mission is completed to get the reward.

You can transfer credits to your friend by buying an amount of an expensive commodity on the market and then jettison+abandon it in space so your friend can scoop it up and sell it. Tip: go outside the no-fire zone of the station before you jettison cargo for your friend. Otherwise you'll get fined for littering.

There's almost too much that needs explaining here for me to start without writing a huge wall of text.

Sounds like you just fought and lost the interdiction mini game. CMDR's usually decide pretty early in their career which method of dealing with interdiction they are going to choose...

1. Fight the interdiction
2. Submit to the interdiction and then try and quickly run away
3. Submit and fight

I've always gone for option 1 when using a weak combat ship like the T7, I'd much rather get the pirate off my back for good so I can continue my journey unmolested.

Option 3 is not advisable.

You can outfit your ship with defenses like chaff/heatsinks and do the submit/ run away approach but to be honest I think it would be better to learn how interdiction works and practice it.

To practice, buy an FSD interdictor for a cheap ship and practice pulling ships out of supercruise in an anarchy system. It's a pretty safe sport, the ship will usually just be confused/scared as to what you want. Getting good at the mini game is a decent skill to have.

You can't buy goods to replace the ones lost as you were contracted to deliver the stuff they gave you not supply stuff you had to go and buy, it is annoying but that is the way it works.

The T7 is extremely good at evading NPC interdictions, don't go to max throttle to outrun the interdictor instead throttle back to the middle or bottom of the blue band and outmanoeuvre them.

Thank you so much for your feedback Krieger, Maymo and aRJay! I really appreciate it!:) I will try to get better at interdictions even though the type 7 turns like a bus. I'll try the ''Submit to the interdiction and then try and quickly run away'' too and see wich one suits me better. Also thanks for the tip of jettisoning the cargo for my friend to pick up. Cheers!

While the T7 is good at evading interdictions it is not all that great at the quickly run away bit of the other tactic.

Aight, I think I need to slow down then. Im always at full speed that might be why I get those super hard turns. Never thought of it so thanks for pointing it out(y)

The Type 7 is one of the easiest to win the interdiction mini-game. Also the Type 7 is not built for combat as in " The pirate was a tough one, I nearly had him twice and then he pulled to far out for my Type 7 to be able to follow " - fight or trade, risking your wing mission by fighting in a T7 was a mistake.

There is plenty of advice to deal with interdictions - as in the posts above - so get in the habit of winning the mini-game or submit-boost-boost-jump. In your destination system the latter is a route to madness as the pirate will continue to pursue you but if you win the mini-game they will not. (Jumping to another system works but that can be awkward if you are in your destination system.)

I sometimes submit and engage the pirate scum (NPCs only) if I am running my mission-Python but that is engineered to the gunwales and can take on most scum.

We all started somewhere and went through all sorts of similar situations - you live and learn - enjoy it.

Lessons we've all learned the hard way :

1) Discretion is the better part of valor. "Live to fight another day."
2) Don't ever enter a fight you're not absolutely confident that you've already won (see 1.)

Still sucks, though. Just hang in there, CMDR. :)

I think op means they fought the interdiction and the tunnel pulled to far out. I don’t think they actually deployed hardpoints and had a scrap...

@OP

If you’re going to submit and run away we also have to talk about mass lock and the inevitable wall of text I was worried about.

You and your friend are running wing cargo missions which tends to bump up the difficulty of the mission (harmless - elite).

It’s no good submitting and then trying to run away if you CAN’T actually run away.

All ships in the game have a mass lock factor, if you’re mass locked you can’t enter supercruise (low wake). You have to high wake (jump to another system).

Like aRJay said, the T7 isn’t so good at running away. To make matters worse it has a mass lock factor of just 10 (really bad) which means any ship with a mass lock factor of 10 or above (most ships) will be able to trap it.

If you’re running a wing cargo mission you can expect capable opponents, Clippers and Federal Assault Ships aren’t fun for a T7. You get pulled over and you need to be trying to jump to another system the second your FSD is ready, start boosting and using chaff...

I’d save yourself a lot of frustration and just practice winning the interdiction. Successfully pull over 5-10 ships and you’ll know the basics. 👍

Yeah that's the dilemma you face with these questions. Tell them all the details in a wall of text or just point them in the right direction so they can work out a solution for themselves. I generally try the second option because I think solving problems is an important part of the gameplay and I don't want to spoil that. But often when I read back my answers I think I gave too much details. OTOH sometimes people are really stuck and giving them detailed instructions is best. YMMV.

Not sure about wing missions - but isn't there (as with regular cargo missions) the option to "partial complete" once you've picked up all of the stuff in the source depot and delivered at least half of the stuff to the target depot?
