Deception and Horizons as a gift to everyone?

Oh yes, I consider the developers to be cheats and scammers!
I bought the game and bought the add-on, I supported the game and the developers!
And here is a Gift that I bought at the price of a standard game! And I bought WITHOUT discounts!
So, all players are given horizons, I hear pig squeals and praise for the "gift"
And what about the developers? We will give you paint for less than 10% of the cost of the game or DLC!
Why do we need your colors, I don’t understand, you deceived me and other players!
You have collected money from us and used it in other projects, at least I support the game that WE bought!
I was taught tolerance and tolerance, but this does not apply to you. YOU are deceivers, liars!
Get your money back, or offer compensation accordingly!
For example 50% - 60% discount on Odyssey!
We are the players who supported you, we are not haters and we are not cattle!
I have always tried to help and support you, there is no more respect for you!

Yeah .. Nah.
Youthful idealism meets commercial reality I suspect.

Caveat emptor - Buyer be aware.

Whatever, I paid for both, but I do not feel cheated. Plus it is easier for devs to support just two versions of game, per platform. Plain Horizons and future Odyssey.

When I purchased Horizons it came bundled, I don't think there was a difference of a couple of pounds between the base game and the base game+horizons, it would have seemed bizarre not to get it at the same time. But this is just how business works, if you buy an item from a shop and it goes on special a week later do you expect the shop to give you a discount on your next purchase because you missed out on the special?

Because Horizons is DLC, does that mean players will get Odyssey free if they wait another four years after its release? Also, does this mean LEP owners have been short changed? If anything, it proves that Horizons is not DLC and should have been the main game on release.

As an aside, I suppose that by giving away Horizons to base game owners, the Cobra Mk IV should remain a pre-order bonus exclusive.

I think I've covered everything. Popcorn? Anyone? :D :D :D

Yes, this is the standard business model of any B2P online multiplayer game.
Every new expansion rolls in the previous expansions to the base game, because it simplifies it and keeps all new players on an equal footing, and means the game doesn't end up mired in needing to buy dozens of independent expansions.
Also, does this mean LEP owners have been short changed?
No. they don't need to pay for anything on release, they get it all straight up.
If anything, it proves that Horizons is not DLC and should have been the main game on release.
By that logic Odyssey also should be included in the base game which shouldn't release until 2024. In which case ED would still launch a feature-complete game sooner than Star Citizen.

I prefer cocoa.
Not the REAL cocoa, which you need to stir before you add hot water or milk.
No, I prefer the crappy instant one for kids with added sugar and vitamins or something that can be drink after you pour milk right out of the fridge.

And about the game being for free....
Tell that to people that paid, like, 5k$ for a cellphone 20 - 30 years ago and had to pay 1$ for every minute of talking.
Then watch them laugh.

I very much don't doubt it. What do you believe happened to the profits made with these games? Do they put it in a special pot which is reserved for dinosaurs?
Or do they use their profits to expand and develop games?
There is no 'Elite money'. They make profits and they have costs. End of story.
They put into everything but Elite. Warhammer, F-1, etc.

I personally can understand the OP's point of view. But there is one factor he/she forgot to consider.

They bought Horizons when they did to have access to it when they bought it. Not years later when new content requires parts of it.

It makes perfect sense from a business perspective to see the advantage of giving out free Horizon's upgrades. It will enable someone to pick up the new content a lot quicker instead of having to buy several upgrades to ensure compatibility.

But, the masses of people behaving like school yard bullies in this thread is disappointing simply because they disagree. Everyone has a right to an opinion. But the forums rules very specifically state you are supposed to treat each other with respect. If you disagree and have nothing good to say. Then don't waste your time instead of ridiculing someone for having an opinion.

Bad Business Precedent.....

Although I understand Frontier's need to unify the Elite code base and drop the base game by moving everyone to Horizon's, BUT, I paid full price for this DLC.

Now, everyone will get what I paid a premium to have, for free, so that Frontier can release another DLC whioh most of us will pay for, so that in four years, Frontier can give it away for free, to again consolidate the code base into one version and do it all over again. I suppose the free Horizons will also give everyone the exclusive Cobra IV too. This all leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I now question any need to buy another DLC for this game from Frontier. It may be a good move for code development of a product, but it sets a bad business precedent for paid DLC's. Why would anyone now buy Odyssey if they know that in four years time, they will get it for free just before a new DLC is released?

What a deal for those who don't pay for DLC's. Just wait for awhile, no need to spend your hard earned cash and when Frontier updates the code for a new DLC, you will get the previous one for free, possibly with all the perks it contained. So, unless Frontier offers those who paid for Horizon's some sort of exclusive discount on Odyssey, which I think would be not only fair, but required, I don't see any reason to buy another DLC for this game. Frontier, does customer loyalty mean anything to you? There are those who say they feel slighted in not receiving their kick-starter rewards. Are you going to set bad business precedent by giving away DLC's most others paid for? Are you going to compensate those who did pay for the Horizon's DLC with a discount on Odyssey?

I guess paid customer loyalty is a thing of the past. You "give away for free" something of game significance to those who paid you nothing for it. Yet those who paid you real money for this game DLC get/got nothing. As a paying customer, name one thing of significance in this game you gave me for free?

Don't you see how this sets a bad business precedent.

You do realize this is how almost EVERY SINGLE VIDEO GAME (with DLC) works, right? Wait a couple of years, and the Gold Edition (which includes all DLC) is cheaper than the base edition was when it first released. This is why I personally wait a year or two to buy games. For example, I've gotten all the Tomb Raider DLC for free because I was patient. Same with Skyrim.

I also go to libraries and read books for free, perhaps even books that you paid for. Please don't burn down my local library!

Funny that, I have 3 copies of the game (2 CMDR Deluxe, 1 base + Horizons) but I just can't seem to get irate over horizons finally being given away, is there something wrong with me?

So, when you come to get rid of your car - are you going to demand the car breaker / dealer give you the full price of the outgoing car too?

Are you going to compensate those who did pay for the Horizon's DLC with a discount on Odyssey?
No, they are giving everyone who bought horizons a free paint job for every ship in the game... not just a single ship...

Are people really still going on about a gaming industry business practice that is so common, so perfectly normal and understandable, that it is typically considered a non issue?

To the people that think rolling Horizons into the main game is some sort of travesty without compensating people that paid for it, do you also throw a fit when a game you bought two years ago goes on sale or FTP if you are not refunded the difference?

None of you are coming off as being the wronged party in this.

That said, I would have not been unhappy with a discount on Odyssey, or free Arx, or what not, just that I do not feel I am owed these things. I chose to purchase a product at a specific price when I chose to purchase it after all.

when did you get it?
how much did you pay?

i would gladly pay full price for odyssey and get it 4 years early even if they came out and said from the start it would be free in 2025
