Guide / Tutorial How to fill all of your Raw Materials bins using Crystalline Shards.

Visted HIP 36601 to stock up and I have encountered an issue where approximately 1/4 of the targets produce trilobal black crystals that can only be collected by catching them in flight before they hit the ground and disappear below the surface.

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/2367 has been marked invalid and a duplicate of https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/2139 (updated and voted)

To my mind 2367 better describes my experience but FD hunh.

Beta 2 Patch 1 report:

On both XB and PC it seems ok.
The fix might be permanent now since there is only one shape that resembles the crystalline shard - aka a needle shape and they properly stick on the ground. The new shape is also less prone at rolling down the slopes.
Had only 2 weirder occurrences, both on XB: 1 case of floating - the shard was suspended about 15m high, and 1 case of shard stuck on the spike.

Stuck on a spike can happen on PC too, seem just some lack of luck tho :p .
I still managed to boost and get it.
Also I had some real FPS drop at some dense shard forest.

I dont see Selinium here its available easy and Ytritium from geo sites here LHS 417 9 EA

I just looked up HIP 36601, with a thought I might head over there.

It looks like you can't get into the system in anything much bigger than the Sidewinder - its wall to wall Fleet Carriers - there must be at least 30!

It's fine.
100+ carriers in a system are starting to get worrisome

Last time i went there with my carrier too... yea, stupid i know - it is way faster to go with a 65ly jump ship

My buddy and I jumped in with his carrier a few days ago and we had to park at the primary star. Nice hoof all the way out to C 1. :D

It was completely impossible for me to find a rout to HIP 36601. Every time I tried a different approach I ended up hitting COL 70 sector which is permit only. I have done over 300 jumps trying to find a way

Just for you Dr Nagi :giggle: cant help with COL 70 used my FC
I knew of the method, it's very good, but holy damn the text colours on the op are terrible! You should change that.
How to fill your boots with Raw Mats using Crystalline Shards

Some of us have discovered a new form of materials gathering that can, with a little effort, be used to gather every material needed to compeletely fill all of your raw materials bins.
I have decided to share that knowlege here with you all.

The first thing you need is to know where to find all this lovely stuff. so here is a chart of all the publicly known locations.

Crystalline Shards on the edge of the Sanguineous Rim region and in the Formadine Rift
The first thing you need, apart from a decent jump range, is a SRV bay.
The materials you will be gathering are only the ones obtainable from the Shards.
Do not concern yourself with the Pecious Cobbles as they don't have anything of value to this project and will waste your time.
Here is my suggested circuit for gathering the required materials.
At each location use your surface scanner to reveal all the POIs
The biological POIs are the ones you are interested in as they are the ones that have the Crystalline shards.
It's worth scanning the shards and cobbles with your Composition Scanner when you are closer to landing, as you will gain new materials discoveries.
You will need to use your night vision as you will eventually need to land on POIs on the dark side.
Make a note of each POI that you have visited as you will clean them out and they take weeks to regenerate.
Don't worry there's plenty of them.
Don't do this in a wing as there will not be enough to go around.
Part a.
1. Travel to HIP 36601 C 1 a and collect Polonium
2. Travel to HIP 36601 C 1 d and collect Ruthenium
3. Travel to HIP 36601 C 3 b and collect Tellurium
4. Travel to HIP 36601 C 5 a and collect Technetium

When each bin is filled (It takes 150 units per material) return to your favourite Materials Broker (The nearest may be Hinz Hub @Ngobe) and trade them down to fill as many low grade bins as you can.
Be aware that there's a bug where you can only load 100 of 100 units. If that happens board your ship and check your inventory. You will now see you have 100 of 150 units and can redeploy for the last 50 units.

Until Hinz Hub is repaired the nearest might well be the station given below:

Rinse and repeat till all the Mats below are full then you need to fill the Selenium bin as this is the only high grade material for which a shard has so far not been discovered.
This item alone will take two trips as the exchange rate is 6:1
Part b.
Follow the last trip with:
5.Travel to Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 c
and collect Antimony
6.Travel to Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 a
and collect Yttrium
7. Go Home!

If you get into serious bother and find you need a station to repair/restock.
The nearest is Flaming Star Logistics Centre at Flaming Star Sector LX-T b3-0

You may find that you need an extra trip if you are particulary low on basic materials but I completed the project with 4 round trips combining parts a&b.
It's possible that combining Parts a & b for all trips might be more efficient.
I'll let you work that one out.

Fly Safe and be Dangerous Commanders

Which sites in HIP 36601 are the smoothest? I get motion sick easily in the SRV.
There is a settings option to reduce motion in the SRV, normally the view is fixed relative to the SRV, but when it is on, the view is fixed relative to the horizon, much smoother when using VR. Without VR on a steep slope you might have to use head look...

Selenium doesn’t show up in biological sites in real life either. Gotta go to geological for it. Fdev actually made it like real life. Hip 36601 has four good planets for it too. My question. How many people have been traveling to that system saying there’s no selenium. I used HIP 36601 C 6 b for selenium(geological sites)

Right - no Crystalline Shard sites for Selenium - but there are several places around the Bubble with very high planetary % - and have geological sites (my favorite is LHS 417)
