Guide / Tutorial How to fill all of your Raw Materials bins using Crystalline Shards.

Right - no Crystalline Shard sites for Selenium - but there are several places around the Bubble with very high planetary % - and have geological sites (my favorite is LHS 417)

Selenium Farming Sites:BodyDistance From Star (LS)Good Geo-Site
LHS 4179 E A~ 3760Geological 23
Kangulu14 D A~910
HIP 832043 B A~ 1920Geological 8

To fill up on Selinium on 417 you will need to visit at least 5 Geo sites some are horrible terrain but these all are pretty flat and good for a DBX or Phantom Geo 18/19/21/23/25 there may be more this site also has around 1-2 Ytritium- Selinium drop and many other good raws including Ars-Merc-Phos

I think I jumped about 1000LY to find out my ship doesnt have enough jump range to get to HIP 36601.What is the minimum jump range needed to get there?

Since the route plotter will do the whole route in one go ... how did you manage to get 1000 Ly out? Please don't say you did it in Economic mode ...

What is your jump range?

I just randomly choose and plotted to planets which seemed 'on the way'. Jumped about 80 to 100 times from Seeker's Rest by now. Jump range is 26.

If you have sufficient materials you could try to inject your FSD to increase your jump range, but you will also need materials to get back out from there. Maybe go to a nearby station to strip your ship down.

As Factabulous says, the in-game plotter will do it for you, and also tell you if it can't find a route because your range is too small.

Right, but what is the min jump range needed to get there? I dont mind trekking back to rebuild (collecting data for explorer rank anyway) but need to know what to build (and if thats possible given I havnt unlocked much engineers).

I don’t know the minimum but Felicity Farseer is usually the first engineer unlocked and she does long range FSDs, much as I don’t enjoy it the Diamondback Explorer would be a top ship for this as it can land almost anywhere. The combination will give you enough jump range.

I just did some testing, reducing my jump ship (DBX) range to 50 LY, the game could still plot to HIP 36601. If I used another ship (Viper MkIII) with 28 LY jump range, it could not plot a route. So your answer lies between 50 LY and 28 LY. Maybe others with can try with a ship that has 40 LY jump range or 30 LY and we can whittle it down. I'm transferring my python to my current location, will give more info asap.

From Ix - CobraIII

36ly - no
40ly - yes 55 jumps
43ly - yes 47 jumps

So you need about 39ly to get there via routing in Gal Map (without moving up or down from plane)

Okay, got an answer for you: 39.86 LY without using Jet-cone boost. If you use jet-cone boost 36.86 LY. Mind you: it calculated from my current position (Wyrd). I suspect it doesn't matter much, because the "bottleneck" will be somewhere outside the bubble..

I managed to plot a route with 38.49 ly on the cargo mass slider, no boost - gal map plot, anything lower failed - this is from Ix and at 57 jumps.

Great! Thank you for the guide. I wish we had some kind of "Collector Limpets" for the SRV. I keep getting queasy after each site and I'm forced to take a couple of hours break. Mind you, I fly airplanes IRL, I lived my whole life on boats and never had issues, even in extremely high seas. Also, I have thousands of hours in this game (playing since 2016, I believe).

Tell me about it. I dont get sick in real life planes/boats/ships/driving like a lunatic but put me in an SRV at a guardian site and I want to hurl.

Do you mean the camera constantly jumping around because of the terrain ? Because you can fix that by switching Vehicle maintain horizon camera on I think, though you might need to deactivate it on big, steep slopes.

Oh, and if you can't find that option, it's because it's hidden in the Graphic options section and not the controls one, that would make too much sense

Thanks. I saw yours and Alain's suggestion in post #141 as well. I'll give it a try the next time. I think I've already tried it in the past but will give it another shot.

Hi all,
Thank you for this guide very usefull and efficient. In order to add my contribution, if that can help some of you, i have a solution for the neutron highway hole on this road. there is a close to 450 Ly hole btw Jackson Lighthouse and the next one, Synuefe EN-Q d6-38.
Can be fill with HIP 41817 and 77 G. CANIS MAJORIS, both of them have neutron stars as B star, and orbiting not too far from prime star.
Fly safe !

PG-mate Commander Wingnuts pointed me toward this guide when I was struggling to find polonium. Insanely productive and worth the necro to say thanks to Commander Dharrch Streynjer (dark stranger? :) ) As far as mat gathering goes, nothing I've done has been as productive for the time spent. Imagine getting 150 PIs in an hour. That's what this is like. I'm going to hit some of the other sites in the OP. When I am done I won't need to prospect again like, forever. I still will because I like to work the rover in to the activity rotation, but I won't need to. Thanks again, great guide.

I spent 1 week grinding mats in December... and built 5 fully engineered ships.

Last night I hit the other three planets in HIP 36601 and filled up three more G4 raw bins. This is fantastic. Thanks also and again to Commander Wingnuts who pointed me towards these systems to hit on the way back

Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 c for Antimony
Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 a for Yttrium
LHS 417 for Selenium (planet 9A?, not sure yet)

In the forum where our private groups hangs out I made a post so folks could see which synthesis recipes these mats are used for at a glance. I have not read through this whole thread and may be treading the same ground already covered. But it may be useful for anyone coming to it late to see what hitting these bio sites will do for you (not to mention the insane value at a mat trader)

Hyperlinks to associated Inara page (the following are only the synthesis uses, follow the links for blueprints and experimentals)

Polonium -- Polonium is used to craft Premium AX Munitions, Premium Explosive Munitions, and for Premium FSD Injection

Ruthenium -- Ruthenium is used for Premium AFM Refill

Technetium -- Technetium is used in Premium Plasma Munitions, Premium SRV Ammo Restock, and Premium SRV Refuel.

Tellurium -- Tellurium is used for Premium AFM Refill and Premium SRV Repair

Antimony -- Antimony is used for Premium Small Caliber Munitions, and Premium Large Caliber Munitions

Yttrium -- Yttrium is used for Premium FSD Injection, and Premium High Velocity Munitions

Selenium -- Selenium is used for Standard Plasma Munitions, Premium Plasma Munitions, Standard Small Caliber Munitions, Standard SRV Ammo Restock, and Premium SRV Ammo Restock.

There are many uses, but as you can see, for anyone wanting to synthesize better ammunition this is a fantastic way to do it.
