Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

some will be kinda unique since we could name ships in the past and reserve those names for those ships.

Oh year, remember that? CIG allowed people to pay to reserve unique names on ships.... now this is going to be interesting to see the salt when it goes live from people who bought the game unaware of this.

Haha, someone finally wondering why CIG didn't plan things out before telling everyone they would do those things. Oh boy... he needs to learn. CIG don't have a clue on how they are going to implement most of the stuff they have promised. CR simply waved his hands and said the game was going to have it. Nobody had time to think about how any of it would actually work, or how certain systems would interact with other systems. The emperor simple said it would happen.

Of course, the faithful rather than addressing the main points immediately jump to attacking him for his erroneous numbers in terms of how many backers there are (amazingly correcting him that all on the tracker are not actual backers) and attacking his grammar.

Stay classy citizens.

Once again demonstrating how many backers haven't seen or have memory wiped any knowledge of other games out there.

Yeah, who brings spears to gun fights?

This is interesting, something i wasn't aware of before.

Apparently SC's unique high fidelity subsibliumtious AI wasn't entirely developed by CIG. It is in fact middleware.

I can only presume they did what they normally did, which was take something that works out of the box and proceeded to break it.
I thought they got rid of Kythera years ago? Because it wasn't up to Chris grand scheme*

*Translation:
  • CIG makes a house of cards
  • CIG implements a middleware
  • The house of cards is about to collapse under the middleware's weight
  • CIG gets rid of the middleware and develop his own "mini-house of cards" middleware

It's also a range weapon firing plasma.

Then at range, you'd expect the highly fidelitous AI to use it as a ranged weapon, rather than running towards someone with a gun. Aren't these aliens meant to be intelligent?

Then really the Kythersa guys should take that case study down.

Unless the dev wants to test close range combat, or the ammunitions are empty, or the Vanduul warrior wants to play a little with its target...

Oh hell yeah. What's even funnier is:

April 2014:

Early days Kythera work on ship hazard avoidance.

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aokaaWeRjc&t=5m44s

January 2020:

Ship AI: 3D Navigation – Collision Avoidance
Building a first pass for the system to correctly handle collision avoidance between moving entities. The idea is to provide a system that can allow AI entities to reciprocally avoid each other while at the same time avoid collisions with the environment. The system considers the projection in time of the position of the agents, their size and their target velocity and provides a steering command that is as close as possible to the original intention of each agent.

October 2020:

Ship AI: Hazard Awareness and Avoidance
Work on Hazard Awareness and Avoidance will not be complete by the 3.12 branch date. This card has been removed from the roadmap for the time being and will be returned when we find a place for it in our schedule.

Unless the dev wants to test close range combat, or the ammunitions are empty, or the Vanduul warrior wants to play a little with its target...

Or they haven't yet implemented it as a ranged weapon. Or the AI doesn't understand it can use it as a ranged weapon.

So many things CIG might not have done yet, but just wanted to show off some basic anims over a model that my son could have made and animated in a few days.....

Of course, i presume backers are already wetting their pants over this.

Hah, he almost said "for something that doesn't exist" Stopped himself in time and called it a fantasy... that's right!

As for nothing being able to kill the dream... well, CR is trying his best!

I can't imagine what it would be like for anyone that takes star citizen seriously in 2020. Imagine if those people suddenly realised themselves what was going on but then kept doing it.
