This is the saddest thing ive ever heard. Truly sad. Saved here for posterity.

Though doing a double take, how much of this is going on in our own back yard? .....

Some day people like Mike are going to wake up and realise that they wasted 10 years or more of their life daydreaming about this game when they could have been doing any number of other things. Mike probably won't mind too much because at least he's making something from his channel and frankly, I assume he's not poor to begin with. As for some of the others though, I hope they have a good support network.

I think they are gone beyond the point of pain reception.

This is interesting, something i wasn't aware of before.

Apparently SC's unique high fidelity subsibliumtious AI wasn't entirely developed by CIG. It is in fact middleware.

I can only presume they did what they normally did, which was take something that works out of the box and proceeded to break it.

Yeah, this comes from long ago.

At the start 2011-2014 period (and also way beyond to this day) CIG had a whole array of already organized and professional companies (with already functioning development processes and ressources) working for them in all different key areas of the development: Ex CryEngine staff, Kythera / Moon Collider, Turbulent, Illfonic, CGBot, Behaviour Interactive, and also tons of freelance contractor outfits, Virtuos, Red Hot CG, Rmory etc to name a few.

This is also the main reason why the usual excuse by backers about having to "build the company from scratch" is nothing more than a common misconception/rationalization. CIG already relied heavily on well established studios and teams from day 1 and spent backers money accordingly.

To even suggest CIG had to build from scratch in order to develop is a bit disingenuous or uninformed at best, and downright lying/misleading at worst.

I do that, its why I allow myself an XB and not a PC, I set my limits based on my ability, my ability to mess it up
rather than running towards someone with a gun. Aren't these aliens meant to be intelligent?
The old 'strike fear into the hearts of our enemies' suicide charge.

Unless the dev wants to test close range combat, or the ammunitions are empty, or the Vanduul warrior wants to play a little with its target...
1st one yes maybe, 2nd one yes mayne, 3rd one come off it. The AI isnt up to it yet.

Someone on Spectrum gets it, but I disagree about ED being shallow:

its been 8 years and what we have dont amount to much ED will have walking and first person combat next year and i know the game is shallow but with all the systems in place now they can focus on content for the game rather then systems

And this response sums it up rather well, no wonder they got the attention of the thought police. (theres normal needed respectable moderation and then theres fascism)

ED is shallow but... Star Citizen is no different. That is the thing. When people talk about "deph" of Star Citizen it's ALWAYS something they imagined that is not in the game.

In theory kickstarter projects usually work like this: You gather the funds. You set the goals based on those funds. You base your plans on how much you can afford to do for money given. And you make the thing.

CIG doing something else. They gather the money and do the development. They will do it as long as they have money. If money stop flowing they will stop. They already spend most of what they gathered and game is maybe 25% done. And I think that is optimistic value. If money would stop flowing I suspect they would be unable to wrap even what they have up and release it as stable game. Meaning they went over the budget like crazy and failed miserably. And only thing that keep this afloat are new people who are willing to give them even more money. Get this into your head people. With money they gathered and goals they set for those money they were unable to deliver the game. They were unable to even deliver half of what they promised. As a kickstarted - this project is a failure.

The sad reality is that you won't get any answers or comment for them. They refuse to showcase S42 because of "spoilers". Sad excuse because no other company in the world does that. So why they are hiding progress on Squadron 42 we can only speculate. Star Citizen is in horrible, barely working early stage with basic things missing. And they strictly even forbidden to answer about estimations or delivery date. And excuse for not answering people like you or not taking responsibility for state of the project and giving us reasonable plan of action is... that they see post like you as attack. And because you are "mean" they won't answer you.

Chris Roberts said that "he won't compromise". Reality is that there is nothing to compromise since hardly anything was delivered for past 8 years and everything they did is shallow and basic. So much that basically every other game out there is doing it better. And Squadron 42 is nowhere to be found.

No they refuse to showcase Sq42 because there is nothing to showcase. Tonker Notwist never played "all the levels" and they never did any work beside the bullshots from vertical slice and trailer vids. There is no extensive mocap, star voice acting, story telling. There is nothing. The money went all into their pockets without developing a game. Fees, wages, boni. That's what Sq42 is about. The enrichment of robbers and friends on gullible people's money.

That guy gets it.

Exactly why I suspect it's old footage.

If thats true it would be "scraping the barrel bottom" like.

While we are talking about roadmaps....has CIG delivered the roadmap to the roadmap yet? I remember that one single screenshot from the shill article but if anything has been officially released to the backers I must ve missed it...certainly hasnt generated a lot of attention that I m aware of? I m just saying cuz one of the faithful mentioned on a YT comment section (lol...I know...trustworthy source) that "they delivered the roadmap as promised" tho I cant be sure which roadmap he refered to.

most streamers I m aware of use Star Citizen for what its worth to generate clicks and thus revenue. I cannot believe that Obsidian for example will be crushed or majorly disappointed if SC never comes together. He seems distant and professional enough to realize whats what. Mike on the other hand at least plays the role of the faithful to a "t". Could be an act...could be true belief I cant say. If he plays it he does it much better than most.

It's that time of year again up here on our small rock in the ocean... 60 knot winds for a week, persistent mains power cuts, no connection to t'interweb due to the power cuts, no ferries for over a week and going outside is downright dangerous rather than just 'bracing' 😰

i can see several roads on that cliff, amazing fidelity

P.S that birds not messing around is it?
Fulmar...or frigate bird, we call them 'Boxies' in the local vernacular. Tons of them up here. I see them dicing with death around those massive swells like it's fun.

There's a popular nesting site on the small cliffs at the edge of our farm...we go down there quite a lot picking up scallop shells. My wife collects them for some unknown reason...better than collecting handbags or shoes I suppose 🤫
