Fiction Lore Synopsis

is there some sort of condensed timeline for the lore? i respect the authors and the time they put in but i am not trying to spend $150 on books to get better acquainted with the universe and it's history. i would like to eventually start to pick up the books one by one but in the meantime it would be nice to have a synopsis or an "outline" of some assortment. thanks in advance.

The only timeline around is this one from the Frontier Gazetteer:

http://www.lotf.co.uk/fe2_gazetteer.html

But it stops way before the games. There is a whole bunch more free information in that though on individual systems, which helps build up a general flavour of the universe.

Is this canon, in that the current Elite : Dangerous universe will have these same systems and planets? (albeit many years in the future)

I'm padding out the HHGTED with the info, and while part of the idea of the guide is that information is inaccurate, outdated, misleading even it would be great to know that DB and team have stuck true to the history in building the galaxy.

Yes, the universe is the same (at least to the extent of the systems and planets mentioned behind that link - though there may be a rare exception) as in FFE and FE2. There may be some differences in how certain names are spelled, however. Not sure if the previous ones were misspelled or if the systems in E4 still need lots of spell checking.

Also the distances between the systems have changed (to more realistic - the FE2 and FFE universes were condensed a bit).

That's awesome, makes my afternoon's work incorporating all that data in HHGTED worth the effort.

Lots of interesting info, and an amusing tendency for Planets to be called New California!

What's HHGTED?

And we could reaally use a lore sticky...

It's in my sig. A website I've thrown together rather hastily, a place to go to look for things to see and do in the Galaxy.

I'm trying to work out a way to highlight interesting things.

so what about the 1000 years after the end of the timeline on your site?

Well like it says... outdated and wildly inaccurate. :p

But really, that was sourced from an old document and I don't know if there's a canon document that documents the next 1000yrs.

If someone can point me to one I'd be very grateful.

There are documents, but they belong to Frontier. It'll be up to them how and when the lore information gets developed further.

Its a tricky balance really. There's a lot of websites already made by writers, players and the game makers. The content of canon and lore is something many people were (and are) interested in, but I'd expect its down the list of priorities to finalise as the initial material (to shape the environment) was good enough to start everything. Usually you then need to come back and tidy up before you release the material.

As things stand there's loads of published canon material in all of the books. These add to what's in the Frontier Gazetteer.

I've blogged a bit about the development of the guide material and my part in it. In helping write it, I gave all rights to the material I wrote to Frontier. think you do have to accept that they've got first dibs on posting anything on a website.

So, in answer to your question, there's several huge documents that push the timeline right up to current, but they are for Frontier to determine the fate of.
