Ok , so i "forced" myself to do all tip off mission , no matter the payout , with hope that they lead somewhere , and guess what :

pleiades sector ih-v c2-16 planet2D . I just got a tip off mission for this place, that lead to a "crash site or wreakage" that leads to an "illegal recovery" of a black box , you get the black box on a level 8 threat signal source with alooot of green . I'm here now , no goid atm , hyper or other form of "stop".

Where the tip off mission originaly designed to lead us on targoid discovery ? of is this just some new tpe of mission that i never had ?

Had one recently. Just a data core, a thargoid sensor, and some random canisters. Data wasn’t worth much. Kinda underwhelming.

AFAIK there are no Deep Space Tipoff's (i.e. a Threat X Signal Source) (??)

Either way, all the last ones I flew in the bubble a while ago were the usual duds or bugged (a fixed High Security Installation instead of some supposed Crash Site).
Or something inside a huge Trespass Zone inside an inhabited System (again, supposedly an unguarded wreckage) - forcing you to become a wanted Criminal if you wanted to even investigate it.

Interesting; I also got a tip off for Pleiades Sector IH-V c2-16 D 2 -4.54:138.94
Looks like exactly the same piece of... space station? I got legal salvage of grain and beer I think plus a log of a crewman talking about the crash.
Didn't see anything else though, went to a research base elsewhere on the planet after and sold the salvage.
Commander's log:

It's been 14 days since the crash. Supplies are running low and with limited medical equipment we're in pretty bad shape.
Jenkins is still unconscious... I think it might be best for everyone if he didn't wake up.
I don't know what I'm saying. Help will come. It must!

the data link also granted me a mission recovery of a black box that i did with sucess , after , well nothing ^^" sadly.

For thoses who wonder i think that tipoff trigger is linked to the time you pass in the same system and also some influence / reputation gain.

I followed these missions because i thought they could lead me to the dark wheel as some old legend say they will contact you when having hight reputation.

Generally I get Tip-off missions when I do many* missions for a faction.

Some have surmised that this is a way to encourage players to move on. I don't think I put much stock in that thought mostly because I don't feel the need to know why they're issued, but I suppose it's possible. Additionally, it seems to me that this would be an odd way to make someone move on. If you're doing many missions for a faction, you're either a fan of earning credits from them, a fan of the types of missions they're offering, or perhaps you're trying to work the BGS. To be offered what's essentially an exploration / scavenger hunt / mystery / adventure mission seems off the mark as an incentive. As many of you know, these missions typically take you some hundreds of LYs away from where they're offered to you and the rewards are realized in the hunt / discovery aspects - NOT in the payouts.

I'm not knocking these missions. Indeed, I think there's some fun in the mystery / adventure for many players. Doing what you find to be fun is what this is all about.

* far more than it takes to become allied with the faction.

Well I was doing missions near Alioth at the time, mostly because they were offering serious credits. I'm now drifting about the bubble looking for some similarly well paying missions...
I didn't get anything relating to a black box when I was in the Pleiades... It all just ended...

Sorry, have only recently noticed this post

One can only speculate about the original purpose(s) of the "Tip Off" (TO) missions.

Some established data, related to the sites in Pleiades:

1) There are only two TO related sites in Pleiades (no more, no less), and both are placed in the same system and even on the same body (but theirs timetables are different, so they are never in the active state simultaneously);

2) Any text log that can be acquired there has been written and added to the game back in 2016, before Thargoids themselves have been introduced.

3) However, both sites do belong to the "unidentified wreckage" class, so they are not from the "first wave" of locations and have been added a year or two later (in 2017, or even 2018).

4) Also, both sites do belong to the "Bubble pool of TO locations". However I can assume that for them an additional "locations spawn center" has been added (if the were not placed manually). Here I also suppose that all other TO locations are procedurally generated (so their exact placement doesn't really matter).

5) Due to the fact that - by design decision or just as a result of a bug - TO end messages are de facto dependent on the game client localization - down to messages sub-group precision - I do not recommend to take into account the relation location-text seriously.

It seems I got similar Tip Off mission - finally made it to the target system, landed at the coordinates from the message and nothing in there. Probably too late...
