Max range on the honk / FSS?

I dropped into LP 123-75, honked it and found 3 stars followed by an FSS scan revealing a lot of HGEs. However I didn't hear a 'System scan complete'...
If there's something else here how far out would it have to be?

It should tell you during the FSS how many bodies there are in total, and how many you've found, though a quick check of that system on edsm shows 3 stars, so I guess that's all there is there. The honk doesn't really have a "max range." It tells you clearly the total number of bodies that are in the system, discovers all stars present, and unlocks the FSS so you can find anything else.

How did you find HGEs in an uninhabited system?

There's some Systems that the Galaxy Map thinks are Federation (edited) and have an Economy - all while having 0 Population and additionally having no assets whatsoever.
The Signal Source Generation mechanic, however, is producing a reliable and quite high amount of HGEs in such Systems.
(use EDDB to filter for Federation -> Population 0 Systems)

Hence, they're a good TipOff for more quickly filling up on Core Dynamics Components for example.
Be aware, though, that there's some "depletion" of such Systems, so they can't be used nonstop. After clearing out HGEs in such a System, I found it's best to re-visit them the next day if required.

PS.
Such Systems are not to be confused with Detainment Centers, which will have a perfectly normal Signal Source distribution.

............

no economy

I've seen plenty of HGEs as you approach from outside the bubble in uninhabited space. They're all over the place.

So I have never considered looking for HGE in uninhabited systems - I live and learn (sometimes). Signal sources (degraded emissions) yes but never thought high-grade ones existed in such systems.

So smack my bottom with the Woman's Weekly and send me to the foot of the stairs. ;)

I'm with you Para - don't believe them without pics!

That's a valid request ;)

Unfortunately I only got one Screenshot of the effects I mentioned, this one is from LP 366-45 (taken on 17 Jun this year).

PS.
Seeing this one also doesn't have an Economy listed, my memory might have played tricks on me.
Doesn't seem a requirement, might be the way around (i.e. filter out those that >have< an Economy, as that are likely Detainment Centers).

Unless that changed with some Patch, you can trust the "old man".
I've scooped up hundreds of Core Dynamics Composites from such Systems during the time when I was facing obscene Mats consumption from converting my Ships into Carrier Support Vessels. Took lots of System visits over many days but it paid off.

It's unfortunate that apparently only Federation 0-Pop Systems offer this, I never found any Alliance/Empire matches with these characteristics.

Worst pic ever ;)

Not really doubting you FF - that sounds an interesting edge case & I can believe that is true - more doubting the others :D

Why "worst pic ever" (?)
It shows everything you need to see (Nav Panel Filter set to display Signal Sources only for ease of purpose, I always did that when hunting HGEs).
That was 6 HGEs for convenience, doesn't get any better than this IMHO.

This is how it worked at the mentioned date, simple as that.
No harm in verifying if that's still the case, though, if you wish. I'm very far away from the bubble and can't check.

As far as I remember, some Systems of that nature were golden like the one shown, others less stellar (few HGEs or too high Ls distances involved) .

Yep wall to wall Core Dynamics Composites in LP 123-75 as well. Seem clustered around the brown dwarfs 30kls from entry but the timer was 20min+ so plenty of time.

EDSM only lists the three stars in the system. Either your game just bugged out and didn't play the message or maybe you had already been to the system before and had forgotten.
