Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Made an account here because this seems to be the biggest place to discuss SC that isn't Spectrum or the subreddit.

We still don't have the new roadmap?

Not yet no, bets are on which will come first, the roadmap, the game itself, some new kind of mutant human or the next Great Extinction event.

Hopefully its more fun here although the best posts from both Spectrum and Reddit are also stolen and posted so I don't even need to be on either :)

BTW Elite is free somewhere for a week if you aint got it yet.

Spectrum is still overflowing with salt over the MSR.

Someone asks...

So why should streamers get access to it?

And the reply...

Because as we have seen, streamers will slog through the bugs in order to produce footage of sufficient quality for their channel. Their videos, which in large part are the promotional wing of the project, won't really be affected by the problems with the ship in the way that general access will.

In other words, streamers are dishonest enough to try and hide any issues and that suits CIG's marketing just fine.

Normal CM speak. Nothing surprising.

That's what the vast majority of streamers do for every game in alpha/beta... That's not only for CIG.

I'm not sure about the majority. There are honest streamers and content creators out there, who don't cover up bugs, are quite open and critical about them.

I mean, did they give FTR early access to the MSR? Or did they just select only those who are overwhelmingly positive about the game?

I didn't see any streamers or content creators doing anything of the sort in the case of AC Valhalla when they had early access to the pre release build...far from it. ;)
Pre-release is not alpha/beta.
Generally, streamers with special acces to alpha/beta sign an NDA and have to comply to certain rules edicted by the company. Not showing bugs of a game in development is a rather common clause.

Generally, these games are funded by publishers. No customer is fleeced until those games are actually released. SC, on the other hand... (which, in and of itself, is an argument in favour of being as honest as possible -- from an ethical point of view, that is).

Even founded by customers, the marketing département of CIG use the same tools that the gaming industry. Evocati are under NDA because their builds have more bugs than the normal PTU. They gave access to this build to streamers for the MSR, nothing abormal to make them not post those 'extra' bugs. If streamers want to post bugs, they can find a whole bunch of them in the PU.
For what I know, the fact that SC has bugs is not hidden, you can find a lot of streamer's video showing them (you can follow this thread if you want to see all of them).

Even more bugs? wow, poor Evocati.

I just wait for Star Citizen to come true to their word, until then I play other games. And maybe wonder a bit how people try to argue that while CIG have dropped features that were promised but for sure they will deliver everything else they have promised.

IMHO this is not ever going to happen. They have promised too much and based on their performance to date are not able to deliver even a coherent MVP.

In other news, is it really true that SC will have unicorn cavalry to help players fight sand worms? I'm sure I read or dreamt that somewhere. Or maybe it's Pegasus class cavalry I was dreaming of.

Heed the call, buy a handwavium and live in your dreams. Gordon's ALIVE!!!!!

Well, I guess I have to do the second part then, wondering how people defend those decisions. I'd prefer the first, but I am getting my money's worth of entertainment.

If they sign such things they are meant to declare them. How many of those streamers are you aware of who have declared such?

Even Rexshilla always claimed he wasn't being paid by CIG.... which may technically be the truth. Its suspected he was being paid indirectly, with CIG paying Red Bull and Red Bull sponsoring Rex.
