Bold (and optimistic) prediction about PZ

Some important things to consider:

  • JWE Nintendo Switch port is now out and fully released.
  • Planet Coaster Console will be out November 10th, 6 days from time of this post

Taking these things into account, I will make a bold predication that since these two major things will be done by the end of 2020, PZ will once again become one of Frontier's main focus. They will shift back some staff who have been working on other projects, and we will start to see more significant dlc with things we have actually requested for well over a year now.

I'm quite sure they already have/still had a team on Planet Zoo. I also know for a fact that the days/weeks after and before a release are one of the busiest times in the game industry. So chances are they won't be "free" for other projects until the end of November or even this year. There are bound to be mistakes aka bugs to be fixed after release that can't wait.

Let's just hope their releases go smoothly so the people can enjoy it.

I expect they will release a DLC for Planet Zoo before Christmas, just not this month, probably mid-December. (I could be wrong)

This would be some seriously needed and good plot twist. Lets just hope you are right.

In the past year, the main focus was PZ. I think Elite Dangerous/PC (pc version)/JWE players will really agree with this one.

Maybe you don't mean it like this, but some words like "actually requested" and "once again one of Frontier's main focus" gives this post a bad vibe.
Not a big compliment for the people who worked hard on PZ last year, working on a lot of requested features.

Don't think they shifted staff from PZ to another project, but they got a big upcoming title with a F1 manager (2022 estimated release) and another one with Warhammer AoS (2023). It would be very unlogical to add more staff on DLC content for an already released game.
If they have a big DLC planned for 2021, that was part of the plan all along.

My prediction would be a focus on the F1 game in 2021. F1 season normally begins in March, so a Formula 1 game should somewhat accompany the start of that 2022 season.
As with most licensed games, released roughly a month before season starts or 1 or 2 months after the start. (first half of 2022).

I definitely wasn't trying to take shots at the current PZ staff, so let me just be clear there.

My thought process is this: 2019 PZ was probably one of Frontier's most important projects. And during 2020 it has perhaps taken less of an important role because some things the company has been working very hard on this year include:
  • the aforementioned ports of JWE and PC
  • Also, a gigantic expansion for Elite Dangerous which will release early in 2021.
It's hard to say definitely given that the entire structure of the company is not public knowledge, but obviously they have had quite a large team working on each of these things (meaning 1 team per project). So I do think it's possible some of them, probably the PC team, could get shifted over to help out the current PZ team.

Following that logic, most people who worked on the PC console edition would be fired.
You're right that it would make sense that they don't shift staff in the middle of a project. But when a project is over (and PC is bound to be finished after maybe some minor adjustments/updates) surely these people will continue working on a different project.

I actually also do think that they shift staff when other projects need more attention - for example because they are close to an important release. This would not happen on a weekly base, but if needed.
Now, I'm not sure if Planet Zoo will FINALLY get more resources to be worked on. The anniversary did not bring anything, now we are waiting for an announcement "soon". Truth is, Frontier did realize that there is a lot of disapointment, even uproar, in the community. Now it is on them to act upon. And giving Planet Zoo more resources would be a very inportant step in my opinion.

F1 what an absolute waste. So many car games out there, pretty much every game you see on TV has a car chase a car race, this is horrible. Do people really like driving this much?

They are making a F1 Management game, probably something in the line with Motorsport Manager.
I'm not expecting them to make a actual racing game, as the license for that is held by Codemasters.

And for me, yes, I really like driving, both in a game, as in my 22 years old speedy Ford Fiesta as well.

lol, got it, not trying to put that sport down, it is definitely a popular activity. Just jealous of how much attention it gets from game companies in comparison to zoos. The worse part for me would be that a game like that generates unparalleled profit for Frontier, and then there goes the zoo. But it is business after all, so if the demand is there......I guess they have to take it.

Ford Fiesta? Would have imagined you in something like an old school Mustang or even an upgraded vintage camaro....but a Fiesta?

Hey, just jumping in here! We already have an incredibly awesome and dedicated team working on stuff for our wonderful Zookeepers!
Keep an eye out on our official social channels for news soon. ;)

Thank you for the update Jay, that sounds promising, and you definitely got me exited. Jay just a question, in your opinion would the current team be able to handle bigger projects in relation to Planet Zoo (bigger DLC's) or is this something that would require additional human resources, lastly do you think Frontier would at some point make that change based on player demand?

Why would it even work like that?
I guess even more resources could be pumped in other games, instead of PZ.
I don't think F1 is as much of a danger to PZ though. But if they announce Planet Coaster 2, I think we can kiss every major improvement pf PZ good bye. Or JWE 2.

Why would it even work like that?

It probably doesn't. I do however remember reading that their multi year license for this venture includes four games, so imagine that, there is even a vast roadmap already in place. If they are planning four games out of the same concept it speaks volumes of the expected popularity and level of success of this game, does it not?

I proposed in a different thread that it would be a good idea for Frontier to dedicate substantial resources to Planet Zoo (similar to the creation of the base game) and added a sequel to the game (Planet Zoo 2.0) that would fill in the many gaps currently found within the current version (The continent DLCs have been amazing, but aside from bringing Polar Bears/Jaguars/Kangaroos/Koalas have done very little in closing these gaps) The idea had a lot of pushback from players here that while admitting they would love for something like this to take place, it would not be financially viable for Frontier, and the demand would simply not be there. Now imagine a game like F1 where before it even is released, the players can count on knowing their will be four games
